Jump Starter on Aircraft??

One of the things we got for our SIL for Christmas was a Bolt Power D28 Jump Starter. They will be here in NM, but live in FL. They will travel by commercial air.
NOW, it dawns on me that they may not be permitted to carry it home.
Does anyone know the TSA regulations on such as that?
Thanks,
Jerry

Lithium ion is carry-on only, and has to be 100 watt hours or lower. I just looked up the specs. It’s 13600mAh @ 50.32WH.

Print out the specs in case TSA questions it.

As RobertB said 100Wh is the maximum you can carry in a single bag, that includes anything that contains a lithium battery in it.

But just to be safe I’d rather travel with a regular 18650 based powerbank instead of one with high discharge LiPo inside. I have one of those emergency starters and I use a LiPo safety bag to keep it from the heat when it’s parked under the sun.

Many thanks, Guys. I was afraid I might have to keep this one, and send another to him in FL after Christmas.
Merry Christmas.

Pretty sure these jumpstarters are 3.2V per cell LiFePO4 and not LiPo. In effect, the W/h is the real issue and it looks like RobertB got you hooked up with what you need for the TSA.

I’d also look up and print the appropriate rules section from the TSA website so they can find that info more quickly in their system. It should be remembered that these people are not highly paid, highly trained, or highly tested so don’t expect high levels of intelligence from them :zipper_mouth_face:
