Driver Help

This driver came out of a Nitecore P05…I would like to replace it with a fet driver but there’s a few issues. The light has a 2 switch tailcap…it has a clicky switch that turns the light on and it has a thumb switch next to it (feels like an e-switch) that changed modes and also gives direct access to instant strobe. I took the head off of the P05 and left the battery in the tube. I took the heads off of a C8 and a X5 quad (both with mtn fets), connected a lead from the battery + to the spring of the driver, and a lead from the body of the light to the retaining ring of the light. What happened next is what’s throwing me for a loop…the led lit up very dimly without me clicking the switch or pressing the thumb switch on the P05…it did this on both the C8 head and the X5 quad head. When I clicked the switch to turn the light on, it got brighter and let me change modes with the thumb switch. When I clicked the switch and turned it off, the led just went dim…didn’t turn all of the way off, so I tried instant strobe and it strobed on both light heads. I can’t access the tail switch because there’s a crap ton of glue on it. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me what driver to get by looking at this driver. I forgot to mention…I have a Sunwayman G25C that has the similar button design so I tried the head of that light and the led still lit up dim with the switch turned off on the P05. I’m not sure if I need a fet with a ldo or what :person_facepalming: Here’s a few pictures though…

It sounds like there is an fet type circuit in the tailcap. So it works with an eswitch but still controls the driver by interrupting the power. Then the circuit can simulate a quick double press from just one click. Problem sounds like the power to run this circuit is enough to light the LED on the x6 driver and would be accounted for in the original driver. (If it’s not evident, I actually don’t know what I’m talking about. Just trying to get your help going)

Yeah, RMM said something about there possibly being a fet in the tailcap. I have no idea how to proceed.

Hey DJ, gotta get the tail apart. Likely a similar circuit to the Lumintop Ti Tool. Bet a standard switch in the tailcap would work with the half press to change modes, but will have to persuade it to open to test it. I really do not like glued lights, do not have single nitecore or zebra since the are famous for good glue.

It was horrible getting the head off, thought I was going to crush the lens…maybe the tail won’t be so bad.

I had tried to build one of these circuits at one time. Wanted it to keep from pulling high current through a remote tail switch. I failed however:(

It would be nice to be able to utilize the stock switch setup. Maybe someone will have an idea…

Why not simply mod the current sense resistor?
Its a 0.05 Ohm
A 0.1 parallel should give a good boost

I’d rather have the most I can get out of it, lol…I like hot rods.

DD such a small light is no hot rod its a topfuel dragster

just play with 0.33-0.1 Ohm resistors how it plays out
