why is it so hard to find a high quality 18650 light that I like?

I really want a high quality ~100$ light that runs on 1 18650..everything I look at it has a downside..ie: not bright enough, not enough throw, bad UI..I really like:

-zebralight sc600..but the side switch i'm not really digging..everything else is good though..this is at the top of my list

-klarus xt10..not bright enough and has no throw..love the UI..wish it was brighter with a better reflector..

-lumintop td 15x..meh doesn't do much for me..I got p60's that do everything it does..

-4sevens maelstrom..only 2 modes? bah..

fenix, jetbeam, olight offerings all don't do much for me..either not bright enough or just don't appeal to me..

so why is it so hard to find the perfect 100$ light? with all the market offerings you'd think something would do it all..

sorry just kind of bummed at what is currently available in the "quality" area..any other suggestions that i'm missing?

Re-think the side switch aversion :)

All flashlights used to be side switch and I'm talking way before Maglite. It's the natural place for your thumb to be.

Using lights in spear chucker fashion isn't really natural.

Otherwise, I don't know. Once we spend more money we get pickier to the point where nothing is good enough. I have the same problem particularly with headlamps.

I find the shoulder hold natural though..I even did it with my maglite..I work security so I guess it's an easier position to strike from..right now I use my 980l at work and it's almost perfect, but I have 100$ to spend and thought I would get a nice single light to move away from budget lights for once..nothing is doing it for me..it's actually depressing that this is all that's offered for 100$..i'd love the zebralight as a edc/personal flashlight, but not great for work..the output and throw of the 980l with the UI of the klarus would be the perfect light..

Did you check out the Pocket Rocket or the Blaze at Shingbeam.com? Both very nice and high quality 18650 lights, one is about $50, the other about $65 I have a Pocket Rocket, saving up for the Blaze. No complaints about it, nice warm tint to the beam.

As far as brightness goes, if you have a p60 and an 18650 battery combination, more money is not going to equal more brightness. A nice Ultrafire p60 nicely driven at 3A is going to be as bright or brighter than anything else out there.

yeah I know..I want something as bright as my p60 but with a high quality name and build and neat interface..seems most of them are under driven to a normal xml p60..

checked out the blaze..seems all right..doesn't wow me though..i'd put it more in a budget area..I want one of those fandangled tactical lights lol

think i've found one..the spark sl6..thought it was side click only but it has a rear click as well..

Try Scorpion V2 with Turbo Head or TN11.

looks really nice, but light and head is close to 200$..out of my price range unfortunately..

Maybe you just want a $32.00 light like a Solarforce 3 mode no blink.

Or there's some new Ultrafire M3 T 60 series XM-Ls ( Lo- Med -Hi - No Flashing) that are 3 amps with Ha2 and Ha3 anodize that look really cool- and I got an Email from Solarforce that the M2s - not the Hosts but the complete lights can be ordered with a tailstand reverse clicky- same price.

I'm new here and just learning from everyone but it seems there's lots of new stuff coming out- AND this Forum seems to have some Prestige with the Vendors and Manufacturers so maybe a Group Buy on a Modded Light or Special Edition will be the one that really grabs you.

Be patient and keep watching

yeah i've got a few solarforces and they're great..maybe that's why i'm so underwhelmed with 100$ lights..they're no better than what I have..

Maybe you ought to check Crelant out.

Edited my Post above to add the link for Ultrafire M3 T-60- Draws 3 amps on high mode-see if you like that one. Could be a really good $100. light- again for $32.00.

Hey Ponder check out the Xeno G42 XM-L they offer it in CW or NW. Sorry no links…on my phone :frowning:

thanks for the recommendation! the 2200mah high put me off though..it's like all the rest..under driven..don't know why they feel the need to do this in higher priced lights..give a good medium with high PWM and heat is a non-issue..

im kinda in the same dilemma, sc600 or jetbeam rrt15/21. still raising funds though.

they only seam to be around in 2 x 18650 Undecided

No it's not. It's this one. 4Sevens Quark TurboX. Bright, top quality and the 4Sevens tactical interface is second to none. It's the best operation system in flashlights today. I have legoed myself a light with non-X Turbo head, 18650 body and regular tail and it's my favorite light by far. And I have close to 20 lights, some of which have self-flashed the drivers. It's too bad the price of the TurboX goes over the about 50 euro limit for customs-free orders outside EU. That's why I propably will never buy it. I would have to pay like total of 150 dollars for it including customs fees.

It's 50 lumens dimmer than SC600, not worth mentioning really. SC600 gives the 750 lumens for 5 mins only, after that it's 500. And even 750 vs 500 lumens is barely visible to eye. I have lights in those numbers and the difference is remarkable only on paper, not IRL.

nah 450 lumens isn't gonna cut it man..I would get the klarus if that was the case..it's 460 ansi lumens..but it's under driven and not what I want..I want a properly driven light on high..the zlt is only 5 mins on 750 lumens but at least they're trying..5 mins is enough on max high for me..all these under driven tactical 100$ lights just don't cut it with me..and therein lies my issue with buying one...
