MKA4 Multipurpose EDC tool Review

Review of the MKA4 mini multipurpose tool

Hey folks today we have some thing different we have the second best bit of kit after a flashlight a multi-tool. Well you could say a knife is the second best kit. Seeing as we can not carry knives here so this is as close as we can get. Even full sized Multipurpose tools are looked down upon by some people. Geez talk about making your job harder lol. This is a no name brand Multi-tool but it does look a lot like the Gerber curve except the MKA4 has a better set of tools.

I asked for this multipurpose tool to review for my YouTube channel. I wanted to do some cheap gear review. Gearbest sent the MKA4 to review and I am glad they did. Sub $5 mini EDC multipurpose tool is awesome.
After breaking 2 of the 3 fake bucks knives I bought from Aliexpress it starts to become expressive luckily I fixed them both. All on the name of science I asked a question that I was able to answer my self lol.
MKA4

Disclaimer this is a locking multipurpose tool so just know your local laws and adhere to them. I do not want some one buying it then getting done because I told you to buy it. How much is bail now days?

Size wise this tool is tiny! The MKA4 is only 5.6cm folded so it is smaller then the Nitecore TIP so the MKA4 would make a great addition to your key chain. Unfolded the MKA4 is 9.4cm in length and the blade length is 3.2cm I will put them below. Weight wise the MKA4 is lighter then most of my flashlights coming in at 27 grams. So its just about the same weight as the Nitecore TIP I know the TIP is around 24 grams but once attached to my keys the loop makes it almost even. Solid gold loop! Reviewing pays good! :stuck_out_tongue:
It is worlds lighter then the Gerber Dime my current EDC Multipurpose tool. Infact the MKA4 is less then half the weight of the Dime. Feature wise the Dime has a few extra additions when compared to the MKA4.

Total length of the MKA4

  • Folded: 5.6cm
  • Unfolded: 9.4cm
  • Blade: 3.2cm
  • Weight: 27 grams

The MKA4 has 7 tools in total so it is a defiantly a multipurpose tool. Glad we figured that one out! I have never written a review about a multipurpose tool so please excuse my filler lines lol.
What I should say is. Its a basic Multipurpose tool because of its size and weight it is missing a few aspects of a multi-tool that would usually come standard.

What tools does the MKA4 have?

  • Knife
  • Scissors
  • Phillips head screw driver
  • File
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Bottle opener
  • Carabiner

So as you can see the MKA4 offer a large range of mini tools did you see what I done their? Its honestly up in question if you really need the pliers in such a small tool.
I know the knife is the first item on the MKA4 but lets talk about the scissors first lol. The Scissors actually work and they work really well! When I bought my Gerber dime the scissors where crap they didn’t cut any thing at all. Now Gerber have actually have patented the scissors maybe the patent says only scissors in the world that do not cut! Lol. So I can gladly say the scissors on the MKA4 can cut through paper and cardboard and I tried it on a plant and it works it actually cuts!

The knife on the MKA4 is good although it is super small (That’s is what she said) it is a locking knife. It has much more use then other small knives that I own. Out of the box the knife is sharp so be careful. I have noticed most smaller folding knifes come fairly sharp but fixed blade knives don’t? Weird right? Maybe its just me. I like the locking feature because it gives you the ability to stab into stuff like boxes (hahaha you also do that with your wiener).

The file works full stop. Okay I done my nails real pretty like! I will file down some metal and show the scrapings.

Both the screw driver work and work good. One is a flat head and the other is the Phillip head. The Phillips head is a tad to big for smaller screws but you can use the flat head on smaller screws and it works great. They kind of even each other out because the Phillips head can also be used as a flat head. I will insert a pic here of what I mean its hard to explain.

Bottle opener I don’t know if it works because I have no beers in the house but this gives me a good reason to go and get drunk.

The Carabineer works really well and it strong enough and to be pulled and yanked on without breaking and morphing or bending in any way. This is good to know if you are grounds keeper and have a tonne of keys to hold. Hahaha trying to use a multitool attached to 10kgs of keys.

The build quality of the MKA4 is great it feels good in the hand and has held up well on my keys for the last 2 weeks. It is looking better then the Nitecore TIP so far.
The body of the MKA4 is made out of aluminum alloy and the blade and tools are stainless steel with a grading of 3cr13mov which I am sure is on the lower side but for this price its not to bad. I think this stainless steel is fairly soft which makes it really easy to sharpen but it doesn’t hold the best edge over time. I think it is about equal to 420c stainless steel? This is common stainless steel found on Enlan and Ganzo knifes I also have some Gerber knives with this SS type. The inner body also seems to be stainless steel only the very outer shell appears to be alloy. The steel is just as durable as tool steel.

The locking mechanism is works really well. It works to hold the tools in place when they are folded in and also works as a lockout when the tools are deployed. I was able to stab through some boxes without an issue. I actually prefer a locking multitool but the laws are a bit taboo about this subject. I have injured my self when then knife folds in a few times on a full size tool.

Overall
How do I feel about the MKA4? I think this is a great mini EDC item it is small and offers basic features needed in some working environments. I like the MKA4 for the fact that it fits on my keys without me noticing. The MKA4 coupled with the Niteore TIP make a great get up and go EDC tool it some what eliminates the need for my EDC bag.

I will add more pics of this tool next to my Gerber dime.

Thanks for reading.
