Astrolux S1 light levels? (and some additional questions)

Apologies if this has been covered, but I didn’t see it on the BG description or anywhere here (may have missed it).

The S1 has 7 light levels; Moon, low, med1, med2, high1, high2 and turbo. In reviews I see that the turbo is putting out 1200+ lumens. Are the other levels listed anywhere?

BLF member mhanlen has a YouTube channel with tons of flashlight reviews. Most include runtime and lumen measurements.

Here’s a link to his video about the BLF A6. It is the light that the Astrolux S1 is based on.

Output measurements begin at about the 2:30 mark. Runtimes begin around 3:45.

His measurements for the seven output levels are 0.61, 12, 71, 194, 417, 805, and 1242 lumens.

Thank you sir

I just saw the BLF A6 on special over at BG for $20 so I ordered one. As you mention, the S1 is based on the A6 and from what I gather they are really the same light with a different brand? I wasn’t in on the original A6 deal but understand it had some (minor) issues that were later corrected and instituted into the S1 and now the A6 is the same specs as the S1. If I’m in error someone can please correct me.

Anyway, I’ve enjoyed the S1 enough that I went ahead and ordered the A6 (and an 18350 tube) today.

Is there a particular 18650 (and/or 18350) that folks recommend to get the most out of this light? I currently have some Sanyo and Samsung 18650’s and a bunch of laptop pulls. I think the 18350’s I have are Nitecore. If there are specific recommendations I’d like to hear about them.

Thanks.

the laptop pulls are not going to have the max current needed
i do know that

Let me know what you think about the light, I am also interested in getting it

I think the best battery advice you can get is here:

I like the Astrolux S1 quite a bit. I’ve started to use it as my in-pocket EDC light. When I saw the BLF A6 on sale for $19.95 I went ahead and ordered it. If/since it’s the same as the S1 I’m sure I’ll like it quite a bit. The turbo is nice of course but I like the moon mode and lower modes just as well. I like the strobe from a self-defense standpoint (I teach Defensive Tactics, Self-Defense and Martial Arts). The battery check is nice as well. I’d prefer to have SOS and/or beacon rather than bike flash (from an emergency situation standpoint) but that’s fine. I carry other lights that have those functions should I need them.

I ordered the 18350 tube for the A6 as well so I have the option of a shorter light should I feel the need.

Go for one, you’ll likely find it a very nice light.

It’s a great light, I’ve given several as gifts to family members.

Battery choices I use:
Flat tops
Sony 18650 VTC6
Samsung 18650 30Q
Sanyo 18650 GA

Keeppower 18350

Lumens range (based on some old posts various batteries)

  1. 0.35 - 0.45 lm (39 days)
  2. 8 - 12 lm (8.7 days)
  3. 51 - 66 lm (18 hrs)
  4. 149 - 190 lm (6.5 hrs)
  5. 344 - 427 lm (100 min)
  6. 672 - 832 lm (50 min)
  7. 1109 - 1494 lm (26 min)

Excellent post, thank you
