Astrolx S2 with XPL-HI

Anyone can comment on this light?

I would like to get a nice light with a XPL-Hi LED.

the S2 is $33 on BG, not a warm deal but I am still open to any suggestions.

Actually now I see convoy has a XPL-Hi light as well.

I prefer the convoy quality, is Astrlx comparable?
Would a Convoy C8 with XPL Hi be a better deal for $21-22
or the clear C8 for $24?

I just received the last Astrolux S2 host from Banggood (they’re out of stock now).
It’s smaller than i expected, but it’s a nice host.
I’m not a fan of FET DD drivers, so i would choose a flat black Convoy C8 XP-L HI V6 U6 3A, which happens to be about half the price of an Astrolux S2 when you look up the coupon here:

I’m staying away from astrolux for the mean time. It’s either them or banggood. But the last 10 astrolux I have bought all have defective drivers.
I purchased the s2 and s3. Mode memory does not work in all 10 lights. It has next mode memory.
If I were you, I would get the x6 instead.

The Convoy C8 with biscotti firmware is great.

Did get it a bit more colorful today.
original Convoy C8 XPL HI V2-1A
Noctigon DTP Star
with 7135*13 driver getting
Springs bypassed, thicker wires to star.

I also did a colorful 4.6A boosted Eagle eye X6 with XPL HD V5-3A
Springs bypassed, thicker wires to star.
Tpad 20mm DTP star

Both are for sale.

There is no XPL HI V6, V3 is highest bin for factory dedomed ones.

Oops, should have been U6.

i am having astrolux s2
it is a great light, has good throw, compact, fit my hand very well, has a cool lighted tailcap
but the len is the most disappointing in this light, it is AR coated, but not Toughed, so it easily gets scratch, now my flashlight has a lot of scratch on its lens, can’t clean it

2016FNL makes it $21.45

I have heard the convoy C8 will throw better if that is what you are after.

i think that code is expired. i tried using that code a few times in the last couple days with no luck.
but to the op and everyone else, im warning you now, i would not buy a astrolux s2 or s3 …or at least untill this batch is sold.
most likely it will have a defective driver. i purchased all 10 of mine at 4 separate times and all had defective drivers. i think this is why they’re having a sale for their astrolux products….

No wonder, because the reflector of a C8 is much larger than an S2 reflector.
The S2 has a rather small reflector relative to its bezel diameter.

Astrolux has gone completely off the rails:

My s2 experience
Still trying to get this resolved. Papal dispute and all that. Last a6 I bought had driver issues and they sent a new one. Gearbest has the same light branded eagle eye that I would try.

Not good, I have the SS version on the way :( I ordered it over a week ago...

Planning to mod it anyways so I guess it does not matter too much unless the issue is the switch that is defective.

What exactly should I look for in the defective driver?

Mode memory does not work. It has a wacky previous mode. For example, turn off in high, turns on in medium. And when I go into programming mode to disable backwards access, now the light will have next mode memory. Turn off on high, turns on in low mode.

I bought an S1 and an A01 and both were totally useless …. is it because they used to be manufactured by Manker and they’ve moved it to someone who can produce them for less cheaper but at a loss of quality … seems they’re totally destroying what used to be a good brand name just to try and make a bit more money …. so often the Chinese way, they just don’t seem to get it.

Do we know this for a fact?… Aren’t the manufacturers very secretive about their OEM partners and manufacturing origins?

I am not trying to call you out or attack your viewpoint…. Just merely gathering facts, for my own future reference.

thanks

Yes we sure do, per statements made by Manker in this thread Astrolux S41 quality issues?

Manker: “BG only cared a low cost and commission but Manker would like to spend more money on R&D and product quality. Then we made the decision that stop cooperation with BG and ”T”. “

Why the Manker guy has many people copy him?
First is astrolux, now utorch
It’s a little ot

The bit that said “Is it because” …… Meant it was a question not a statement

I’ve seen it suggested in a couple of other threads but would be interested if anyone knew for sure but certainly they seem to be having some issues at the moment and this may be a possible reason.

Received mine today from the “newer” BG batch that came in stock 02/16. It came to me from Korea, which I thought was quite odd…
The machining and finish on it is impeccable. I was very surprised. Hard matte finish, square cut threads, no sharp edges. Looks nothing like the A6/S1.
The driver seems to be faulty though. Backing up modes takes (>3 seconds after testing) when it should be >0.5 sec, and the battcheck maxes out at 3.7V.
