review of thorfire pf01s

this sample was sent by thorfire via amazon.
this is a 1aaa clickie tail “tactical” penlight.
the good.
very bright for its size.
stiff clip not likely to slip and cause loss of the light.
mode memory so you can set the preferred mode to power up in.
super low “firefly” mode.
decent throw for such a tiny reflector.
pwm not really noticeable.
the bad.
creaky mushy wobbly switch.edit.high resistance in the switch.light gets noticeably brighter as you depress it further.
rotating or removing/reinstalling clip scratches up the body.
looks like this even happens at the factory as this one had been touched up with a paint marker.
likely a trade off for a nice tight clip.
led has a yellowish green tint.may be a normal variation.reminds me of tint shift from a dedome.
even though 10440 li not officially supported it handles it just fine warming up nicely.yellow greenish tint gone!
this did not destroy the unit and end its long term real world usage test.
this light will be handed over to my business partner and his findings will be added here.
i did not disassemble the unit.but it looks to be a 3535 led so it should be easy to upgrade.
i noticed these have a “turbo timer” of 3 minutes.
drops from high to med.

followup .
the boot is worsening with time.stiffer and more creaky.
both guys i asked to check it out mentioned the poorly designed switch/boot.
its the achilles heel of an otherwise decent light.
the fact that this was immediately apparent to a new young flashaholic who is just now doing his first mod on a china cheapie is damming.
switch/boot needs a redesign.

This is a shame. The boot on the PF02 is actually rather nice and the clicky is smooth and gives decent feedback.

hopefully a redesign is in the works.
this would make it a very nice light.
would also be interesting to see the difference in pf02 switch.
unless yours has a redesigned switch.cant imagine them being much different.
looks like the same light with a longer tube.

Sorry I just checked and I’ve got a PF04.

entirely different light.
forgot to mention that mine is beaten by a hf 9 led freebie for total light output.
and its one thats modded with an 18650.
been trying to murder it with a fresh cell dd to 9 of the cheap hi cri ebay leds for 4 months now.
a fresh cell in the morning and one in the evening.
the thorfire throws further but the 9 led freebie gives more total light.

Any pics? Just wondering.

Have you contacted Thorfire, sure they will make good!

its a review sample.
they are welcome to send a redesigned unit for testing if/when they redesign/improve it.

Thanks for the honest review.
Maybe you can use some punctuations and capitals in your next review, it will make it much more easy to read.

well since my review sample is a dog i dropped in a 10440.
its great with it.
head warms up showing good heat transfer.
modes work.
switch is still garbage.
