Interesting looking a C8 style light with extra cooling

Just stumbled upon this:
DIU# 2000Lm C12 CREE XPL V5 Brass Copper Base 10x7135 1-Mode LED Flashlight
http://s.aliexpress.com/rE7ZnUnu
(from AliExpress Android)

Looks like a C8 with lots of extra cooling fins.
Vendor sold me something that isn’t working properly (20meter NW ledstring with solar charging)
If we agree on refund I’ll order this though I fear Ultrafire C8 quality.
Anybody knows this light?

Seems like it’s an old model https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/18142, named the “C12”. Searching this give a lot of older reviews

Yes it is an older design but the specs sound interesting on this one. You really should take one for the team Miller and purchase this for a review. :stuck_out_tongue:

Aha C12 eh… Well its in the cart and when vendor resolves issues on the ledstring adequately I will buy it

Kaidomain has them too.

The fins wont do so much more cooling.

On the other hand it has a pill no integrated head, so cooling performance wont be much better

KD’s one does not read the same spec wise as the one Miller linked to. I’ve never heard of a shop front selling 10 x 7135 drivers and I assume the copper mentioned is a brass pill.

There are loads of them on ebay claiming a Cree XML-2 U3 and up to 2000 lumens, which has to be an exaggeration, if not as gross as the usual lumens claims for flashlights on ebay.

This one says it has a max driver current of 3500 mA and uses 10x7135.

It seems to have the usual 5 mode controller and it doesn’t say it has mode memory, so I’d assume it doesn’t and probably has next mode memory. That would put me off. I don’t like disco modes at all and being forced to go through them is a misery. I’ve heard that the extra fins make the C12 awkward to hold. The pictures in a Forrader C12 entry on ebay show the tail cap off and it looks to have unanodised fine threads, which again would put me off.

There are loads of others, some under the Forrader name which I get the impression makes some attempt to sell products a step up from the generic C8s etc. I think if you want an upgraded C8 you are better off with Convoy/Thorfire/Brinyte etc and getting something which is more of a known quantity.

Nothing to get excited about IMHO. Still if Miller gets one and does a write up, it will be interesting to read.

C12 with those many large fins around the pill certainly LOOKS as if it would shed its heat better than a C8.

The usual junkfire low quality. The design is also very uncomfortable.

The Aliexpress listing is contradictory. It says it has 1 mode in places (including the title) and in another it says it has High/Medium/Low.

If it does only have 1 mode, that makes the torch of limited usefulness. Unless you are buying with the idea in mind of altering the driver, it might be worth checking that out.

I got a few of the first generation XPL of this C12 from Kaidomain and they have a brass pill, but the threads are not the same as any other C8 or other flashlights that I have. Bummer.

It was not near as cool as it looked, Many other C8’s blow it away.
It’s not terrible but not anything to rave about.
JMHO
As usual your voltage may vary.
