Congratulations on the 7000 true flashoholic posts, ImA4Wheelr! Smile

A mod that required a lot of fixing before it finally turned out right, a Solarstorm SC02 modded with DrJones RGBW driver, colour XP-E2’s and a Nichia 219A high CRI:

Mr. 7000!

That’s more posts than I have lights Big Smile

After joining BLF, this is the first light I modded. Originally it was Black and had a CREE X-PE. Ran on 3 – AAA cells and for it’s size it threw pretty good. What I did was strip off the Black anodizing and I tried to re-anodize and stain it Purple. After many attempts I just couldn’t get all 3 pieces the same shade of purple. So I settled on just anodizing the center tube and I buffed the tailcap and head. I also upgraded it to an XM-L, Direct Drive and used some copper pennies for a heat sink. Later I converted it to run on a single 18500 Li-ion. Back then, it never occurred to me to post my efforts.
Like I mentioned, my very first LED mod.

Congratulations on surviving BLF for so long without going Bankrupt! Silly

Thank you for the GAW and MtnE for contributing.
I have learned from you and many others on here.

And to highlight Richards work here is a VG10 built with his parts and his reflowed Tpad Quad with XP-L HI V3 3C and New Fet+1 on Bistro.

$$$ toward RMM is an awesome giveaway! I think I’ll enter! Wink

So I’ll mention my DIY triple spacer mod I coincidentally posted here TWO YEARS AGO TODAY! Party

Using a 3/4” brass PEX plug from Lowes, I was able to successfully make spacers for my triple builds. This has worked very well, as I have built three triples using this same $2.19 plumbing piece:

1. A triple 2.8A regulated high-CRI Nichia 219b in a Convoy S2
2. A triple 2.8A regulated XM-L2 in a Convoy S3
3. A triple FET-Driven XP-L HI in a Convoy S6

…and they have all worked great using this technique.

Shameless bump.  Surely more folks have posted (or will post) mods and are RMM Mountain Electronics fans.

Really great posts folks.  Thank you for joining the GAW.

Congrats on the 7K posts! Not very high quality modding, but I got my Sunwayman V11R turned into a triple running on AA battery.  http://budgetlightforum.com/node/39346

This link is to one of the first lights I modded, JM05. It was also one off my favorite lights that was loaned out and never returned.

Wowser what a build. Love it.

I have only done a couple of custom builds (but it didn’t make a thread on them here so I’m not in).

Congratulations and thanks to ImA4Wheelr! For his contributions and the GAW; and a special thanks to RMM for sponsoring this GAW.

What an awesome forum.

How about my first assembly of a light from parts bought from RMM?

Link here. It’s an S2 Convoy tube with a triple Carclo elliptical optic.

Tell me about it!  I can't believe I have made that many posts.  Doesn't feel like it.

Thanks for all the great posts and comments guys.  Been meaning to visit all of the links posted, but time has been pretty short lately.

Take yer time! I’m still hoping to get a mod thread done in time to join this GAW! If you read all the threads before drawing a number, maybe I’ll have time to get in! Silly

EDIT: I got a mod thread up! Here it is.

Thank you for bringing that up DavidEF.  Part of my goal with this giveaway was to encourage folks to get into modding.  Lets go for April 20th.  Five days after the big tax day in the USA.

Please remember to put your mod link in your first post to this thread as the OP says only the first post counts.  I inadvertently created that restriction when I made the OP, but its too late now to changed the rules.

Adding an Update comment to the OP now.

I’m afraid I’m not much of a modder. A Lego-er at the very best.

Edit: if lego-ing is good enough for you, I’ll gladly be IN!

Thank you  Henk4U2.  No need to be a great modder.  One doesn't even have to be sucessful  If you even attempt change the light in any way and post about it, you're in the drawing.  Legoing is awesome and counts.

Congrats on 7000+ posts ImA! Here’s a link to one of my more interesting mods. That light is still going. It doesn’t get used a whole lot, but it doesn’t just sit on a shelf either – it sits in a drawer . . . just kidding! I think it’s still running on the original batteries though I’ve noticed it’s getting dim so they probably are run down pretty far now.

I joined BLF because what I really liked was to buy cheap lights and mod them. In this forum I learned a lot and managed to complete my “biggest lumens small flashlight”, an ultrafire F13 with four xhp-50.
