Imax B6 charger: can I use a power supply 1 Volt higher than specification ?

My new Imax B6 charger can accept the input voltage from 11-18 Volt. I wonder if can I use my laptop charger with an output of 19 Volt, 3.1A without damage the Imax ? I will use it to charge mostly lipo batteries.
Many thanks for your advise.

Search craigslist/Kijiji/ebay etc for an XBOX 360 power supply. Cut off the end, jumper the two switch wires together (for constant on) and wire the two power wires to the barrel connector for the imax. Solid reliable power supply with UL/CSA cert. that won’t cost more than $10. Been using one for years for my RC lipo’s (2s/3s/4s all >5000mah).

If it says 11-18, there is a reason why it does not say 10-19 or 0-100.

Thank you all for your suggestion and advise. I have a couple of unused laptop chargers laying around so I thought of using it instead buying another psu for the charger.
As Ford Prefect and gauss163 suggested of moding the psu, it reminded me of my spare PC’s psu which can supply 12V with high amperes, a perfect solution.
Thank you again.

@gauss163 : thanks for the information. I have read some of them and will do it later when I have time. In the meantime, I used a buck DC-DC converter to lower the 19V output of the laptop psu, the penalty is my dc-dc has a max. of 2A which is fine for me to charge most of my lipo batteries.

I've tried it with my Imax B6. As I recall it beeps and gives some kind of error. It doesn't fry though. As others said, I use computer PSU's, or smaller, tidier external hard driver PSU's (with lower current).

I used the laptop psu with the dc-dc converter to lower the voltage and it worked. I adjusted the voltage output to 16V.

Which dc-dc converter did you use? Some are more capable than others. Does it get very hot?

The cheaper low amp capacity dc-dc converters can get very hot at higher loads.

If it stays cool looks like you found a good solution.

I bought these modules on Ebay or Aliexpress.com. They are quite cheap $1-$4 and do the job. The 2A (LM2596) was just a bit warm when I ran it at max. 2A, alternatively you can buy the 5A (XL4015). Make sure you adjust the Imax to charge at only max. ampere according to module’s capacity. So far I have no problem.

1/ This module can handle up to 2A

2/ This module can run up to 5A

+1
even the lowest spec xbox 360 supply is 10a continuous.
good quality,ul/csa,ur,ect and fan cooled.
budget too as there are tons of dead consoles out there.
