It's another Giveaway! - Winner announced!

I was just bumping around BLF, reading some threads, when I saw it - the big 4000! I’ve made it to 4000 posts, and I need to do a GAW. I missed doing a GAW around 3000, because I just didn’t have anything good to give away, and I couldn’t afford to buy a prize to give away. I still don’t know what I’ll be giving away for this one, but I’m gonna go ahead and commit to it, and go from there. I’ll update later when I’ve got it figured out.

RULES:

  • You must have been a BLF member before today (March 22, 2017).
  • Unfortunately, I can’t afford expensive shipping. If I can ship the prize to you for a reasonable charge, we’re good. If you live somewhere that is expensive to ship to (from the USA), then you can enter IF you’re willing to help out with shipping. EDIT: Not necessary because the prize will be store credit.
  • To enter, you must post in this thread a couple sentences (or several, if you wish) about the BLF Member that you have been most inspired by in your time here and why.
  • Since post one is normally considered “the first loser”, whoever takes post one will get “extra credit” somehow. This worked out really well for cfy7 in My 1000 post GAW.
  • You may post more than once (we love chatter around here), but you will only get one chance to win.

* * * Update March 28, 2017 * * *

I’ve pretty much decided on a store credit type of prize for this giveaway. What I’d like to do is give a store credit from any online store the winner chooses, as long as the online store makes gift credits available for me to buy. I know that Richard at Mountain Electronics does, and I’m fairly certain that Banggood and Gearbest do as well (and Amazon, eBay and others too, I think). Any others I don’t know about, so you’ll have to tell me. I’ll purchase the gift credit and transfer it to the winner in the usual way.

I’d like to remind everyone that an eligible post must contain some words of praise for somebody on this site. You will not be entered in the drawing if you just post “I’m in” or something like that. But, the opposite is not true, of course. Once you have one eligible post, you may proceed to fill the pages with as many meaningless (or meaningful) ramblings as you might see fit!

I still haven’t decided on an end date yet. But, I promise not to stretch it out to an unbearable length of time. I will soon choose an end date, and that end date will be not too far off. I’m just not particularly ready to commit to any such date yet. :stuck_out_tongue:

* * * Update April 30, 2017 * * *

Well, umm, I’m so embarrassed! :person_facepalming: I should have done this thing a while back. Let’s get this party started for real! Uhhh, arbitrary due date… ummm… Oh I know! Any Star Wars fans here? I used to be, when it was just the three old movies. (The newer ones, not so much.) So, let’s make it 05-04-2017. Yep, we’re gonna end this giveaway on “May the 4th be with you…” day! So, uhh, get in if you haven’t yet! Oh yah, by the way, I decided that since this is my 4000-post giveaway, the prize will be equal to 4000… pennies! LOL! $40USD worth of credit to any online store of your choosing, as long as they sell flashlights. Oh yeah, and they can’t have a store name that makes my wife suspicious… or the police… or my bank… you get it!

Let me be first…
Congratulations for the 4000 posts
Well my favourite BLF member is M4D M4X.
I contact him for the coupons.
Then he shared some of his flashlight knowledge with me
Finaly we became friends…

Well, congratulations with your 4000 posts!

Not sure who to consider the most inspiring member though…

Inspiration can take many forms. If someone said something nice about a flashlight, and that ‘inspired’ you to buy said flashlight, and it turned out to be one of your favorites, that counts. I just wanted people to have to talk good about each other a little, instead of just a bunch of the old wore out “I’m in!” posts.

The member that inspired me the most is Mattaus (inactive now days). His Eagle tutorials got me going. He is probably the member my girlfriend likes the least…

robo819 is my pick for most inspiring. He spend a few days of his time as I obsessed over which C8 to buy. He was/is very patient and helpful and he’s the reason I started getting hooked on this forum. So thanks DavidEF for the giveaway and thanks Robo819 for being awesome!

Congrats on hitting 4k David, thank you for the opportunity.
I’m probably most inspired by CRX for his insane modding skills and good taste, but PilotDog and The Miller are huge contributors on the technical end, so it’s hard to pick just one.

Congratulations David! Thanks for your always pleasant and constructive posts, trying to be helpful.
I will probably not be in because of where I live.
BLF is made by many inspiring members, to mention one: MRsDNF who does not just build the most fantastic flashlights but also never fails to welcome folks and post his appreciation for what other people have done.

You know what? I really don’t like excluding people because of location. BLF is such a generous place. I don’t want to be the Stooge! I’m thinking about doing a gift code to some online store as the prize. Then most members ought to be able to enter this GAW. I haven’t decided exactly yet, but I’m leaning that way. Thoughts?

Thanks for the Giveaway!

I am inspired by Old-Lumens. His mag mods are incredible. He is missed greatly around here.

Congrats on the 4K post! My pick would be Dale (DB Custom), well, because his reviews are always great to read, covers most things that a layman or even a flasholic would like to know, not to mention that his DSLR pictures of the item being reviewed are just lovely. OK I admit, I love DSLR’s too other than flashlights but seems like flashlights are more affordable at the moment :D.

From where I come from, my currency is just too weak to purchase anything decent, hence having advice from knowledgeable people like Dale will help us get the best bang for the buck. So here’s to you, Dale

Gift code would work, maybe Mtn if it’s a local and your choice of retailer otherwise… Want to be really nasty? How about The Jolly Green Dino… :smiling_imp:

So I’ll jump in on the giveaway, but the question is a bit difficult to answer:

There have been many here who do some awesome work, but to top the list out, you of course need to have the venerable OL. The work he did with his hands was incredible. He didn’t actually inspire me; I think “enthrall” would be a better description. His polished flames Maglite was a good example of his ingenuity and abilities. He did a lot of very impressive work, but the style of this light really appeals to me. He’s looking back at us here in this photo…

I admire you TS, youre having a GAW. You are nice.

M4DM4X and freeme help me by providing a good deal on some lights :money_mouth_face:
but mostly all BLFers here are very unique in many ways though

I am fairly new here but Congrats on 4k posts. I have been a flashaholic since I was a little kid but when I found this site I thought I died and gone to flashlight heaven. I have much time on my hands due to extensive medical issues so I have spent so many hours reading so many posts on here my eyes are shot. I can not single out just one poster that I could pick cause so many of you just amaze me with your builds and knowledge I hope to be able to save up enough money to buy one of Simon’s C8. Again Congrats and this forum gives me something to do everyday.

Congrats, David.

I don’t know if “inspirational” is the word, but the member- now former member- who was the most entertaining was Kreisler. Sure, he was erratic and unpredictable, but that squirrel was always good for a laugh.

Congrats on the 4 GRAND

Old Lumens inspired me the most. Through PM’s he advised me on issues and through his videos, got me going on reflowing my first LED. Also all of his posts never went unread by me. What a Master… Thanks and everlasting KUDOS to Old Lumens!.
RIP BROTHER !! :crown:

Nice GAW, thanks
Not in for both location and devious rules, no way I can mention one and even a list divided in categories would surely mean I miss people  just too many awesome BLFers man!

Oh , man .., 4000 posts in less than 3 years ! A minimum of 3 posts per day !.., now I realize why the eyes from your avatar are looking like this !!!

Sorry , I was joking ..., I'm really impressed by your contribution on BLF !

Anyway , do NOT count me in for this GAW , I'm sure that somebody else will be happy with it !

So many good people here , hard to point someone ,YOU , djozz , M4DM4X ,DB Custom , MRsDNF , the regreted Old Lumens , Barkuti ,Enderman , and more recent Loneocean...But , because I'm not participating on this , I'll point to ALL of you , Members of BLF ! Fair enough ?

I'm waiting for the 10k , one !!!!

I've been here a very short time, to say I admire anyone in particular.

The more time I am here, the members that mod flashlights, and experiment, lure me in to their shared topics.

The members that have lathe, metal mill, or CNC experience, their talents and ideas are the next level.

This, I also enjoy when they share. Even though I am a little envious they have, or have access too the machines. I create in 3D myself, so like members might relate to my feelings.

All in all, BLF is a neat place to see a lot of creativity in many forms.

Good Luck to all participants!!
