please name some budget tube style throwers

I would like a budget nitecore p10gt / p12gt.
The budget counterpart does not have to throw as well as those two nitecores, but I’m just searching for that particuliar style light at the moment…something with a head no larger than one inch.
the only thing I can find is a convoy S series with a smooth reflector, or the thorfire vg10/vg15s.

Thrunite TC12. Althou it is not XPL HI inside, it has good trow. Also has well spaced modes.

thanks, but unless theres a code or gb, thats not very budget.

i found another contender…the eagle eye x5 and x5r looks pretty good and cheap.

Check this one out…. http://m.banggood.com/BLF-A6-XPL-1600LM-7-4modes-EDC-LED-Flashlight-p-991823.html

I had bad experience with X5R. Also X5R do not have smooth reflector.
If you do not want NW you can check here

Skilhunt DS21 XPL HI EDC Flashlight (link is external) $ 27.99 is good option.
In range ot 30 - 35$ there is good 1”tube models ot Lumnitop and JetBeam.

I would second the BLF A6, deals at Banggood at the moment , look for a thread and code elsewhere on this forum.

Can get it with a battery included or with a shorty tube for use with 18350 battery (Astrolux S1 , same light different name) or in non anodised form.

If you fancy mildly modifiing it, you could put a XPL-HI LED in it like I did and it improves throw a little, Throws as well as a Manker U11 I had , which is rated at 252m. So closer to P12GT.

I actually have about 10 of those blf a6 and s41s type lights, love them. But I’m looking for more throw. Thanks for that thread, I’ll take a look at them lumintop and jet beam lights.
I do have the lumintop muni which is great. But I need a tail cap switch and preferably a smaller head.

It is difficult to get more throw than an A6 S41s tube light because throw is better with larger reflectors. Larger diameter reflectors and the smaller size point source of the light gives best throw. Since we can’t shrink the emitter size any smaller than the popular LED’s that we have, the choice is to make the reflector larger diameter.

Good luck, OP. You're setting the minimums too small for an effective "thrower" from a "budget" light. Anything of any worthiness seems to get discontinued.

Search out lights with a bezel above 1" for your budget criteria, if this is your direction for need. I've researched extensively where you are going.

The budget crowd here, want warm light. It will become apparent the more you dig into these forums. Anything "size-wise" with the right proportions, is long gone. Or, over priced.

When it gets over priced, look to what's already proven in design. And pay the price. You will not find what you're wanting here

It doesn’t sound like you do modding, but a dedomed XPG2 in an S2 with smooth reflector throws pretty good, around 35-40 Kcd, which is about twice as good as stock XPL HI lights in this size, like the P12GT.

P12GT is one of the best, maybe search for a used one or use a M4D M4X coupon code for a discount?

I have the P12GT. I got it right as I got into modding. It hasn’t really seen any use because I just like playing around with modded lights now. If you’re interested in it, it’s in brand new condition. I still have the box, all accessories, etc.

If you’re interested in building something though… A poor man’s P12GT would be close to a Convoy S2 (not S2+) with a smooth reflector and XP-L HI. I’ve built several of those and they fair well against the P12GT. They don’t have the secondary switch or thermal regulation though. All depends on what you’re after, I suppose.

+1 …. That combo works nicely. :+1:

+2 on that! My S2 with smooth reflector and XP-L HI is my most used light. Very impressive for how small it is. Also not pricey to build.

Looks like I’ll just be going with a S2 xpl hi with smooth reflector. Are the bezels to the s2 glued or hard to remove?
So if I just purchased these two items, I should be good to go?

Are you guys actually building yours? I think it will end up costing more than the route I listed above. But then your guys are probably putting a more powerful driver to push more amps?
I think a dedomed xml2 should throw noticeably better no? But the gasket for the smo reflector says it’s made for xpl

I am pretty sure most of the BLFers here do

I dont see why ppl here like P12GT…its overpriced and has too narrow beam for an EDC, low lumen output too

I had it, had S2+ with a SMO reflector and a hard driver HI, a hard driven S2+dded XPG too( 45k cds)…

The edc that suits me most actualy is a red S2+ with a SMO reflector and a XPL HD emitter: driven at 6 amp youll have 1800-2k lumens, like 13k cds + a driver with a firmware you need, in me case a modded Bistro

That reflector you linked is for the S2+ (it’s shorter than the S2 reflector). I haven’t seen anyone report lux numbers using that reflector.

Maybe banggood doesn’t carry the smooth S2 reflector, but mtnelectronics and other places do.

The pill should come out of the S2 without much trouble, but I think the smooth reflector has a smaller hole than the OP one, so you might need a different centering ring. Unfortunately I forgot the specifics of which centering ring worked.

You should expect smth like 25k cds with this reflector and a XPL HI emitter( at 5 amps), i had a S2 like this……actualy its beam is kinda narrow for a city EDC use
SMO S2+ reflectors brings the same numbers actualy

The linked S2 has a smooth reflector as far as i can tell and has a HI emitter so no need to change anything.
