Buying for department

Hey all,

I am currently trying to talk my department manager into upgrading our current flashlights to something of better use.

Currently they supply some very crappy energizer “heavy duty” shock proof flashlights that more than likely produce about 200lm with 2 AA batteries. My 10 dollar J5 Tactical running one 14500 produces more light than they do.

To help, I am looking at rechargeable 18650 flashlights and am leaning toward the Lumintop EDC25. My boss is the kind of person who likes options, so any other rechargeable (or even a decent charger if the light doesn’t have it built in) would be gladly appreciated.

A few notes on what we use them for:
Work in Manufacturing will mostly be used to look inside of parts for debris or porosity
Under/inside machines for leaks or dropped gages
Inspection

Eagle Eye X2R with Panasonic protected 3400?
Build in charging good quality.

Convoy S2+ 4*7138 NW with cells and chargers

The Miller took my first suggestion….but a couple others….

Jetbeam E10R if you think they’d like to stick with slightly smaller AA/14500 style. Only rechargeable AA size light I’ve seen…but kinda new, so don’t know much about it.

Convoy BD06 could use 18650 or 26650.

I don't have any specific suggestions, but something to potentially watch out for. If your folks will be using the lights with moving machinery, you probably want to avoid lights that use PWM. I have noticed working on cars, that PWM can sometimes give the illusion that parts are not moving (strobe like effect). It's usually is not a perfect effect, but could fool someone if they are tired/fatigued.

Best wishes on your search. I think your coworkers will be very happy to have better options.

Good suggestion ImA4Wheelr !
Wouldn’t be the first time someone is fooled by the strobe effect, i have seen it once myself using TL lighting and a colleague with a 50 Hz stroboscope, it looks as if rotating parts arent moving, which really were moving. These situations can be potentially dangerous.

For ease of use, I’d say the Eagle Eye X5R is worth the extra bit of charge, Easy to use, incredibly high quality, and brighter than your J5.

Depending for what you use em you may want high CRI

Nichia 219 have a very good CRI>92 color rendering

As other already mention, I would like just to confirm.
If you are going to use light for work (inspection) two things are important:

- HIGH CRI;

  • NO PWM;

I have laid them out to my boss and he is currently considering the Eagle Eye X5R and the Lumintop EDC25. He likes the style of both for recharging, but is a little worried about shipping from overseas with the Eagle Eye. The Lumintop is also on Amazon, so i believe he will be choosing those…but the price is the biggest key here. I will keep you all posted on what comes in!

Thanks for all suggestions! :sunglasses:

Honestly I don’t have alot of experience with built in rechargeable lights , only one I got is the zanflare f1. http://m.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_466743.html

Ahhh!, the sun has PWM!

Don’t forget the batteries. I suggest you get protected ones. Panasonic NCR 18650B are well thought of on here and are what I use.

or if you don’t like ordering things from China,

if you are in the USA. I think there are a few other reliable suppliers.

You’re safest sticking to the big names, Sanyo/Panasonic, LG and Samsung.

Avoid like the plague anything which claims a capacity over 3,500 mAh, anything called xxxxfire, and ebay cheapies.

There are lots of threads and reviews on BLF about 18650 batteries.

There is the new MecArmy MOT 10 with built in charger you might consider.
In stock at Going Gear, it misses out on the hope for high Cri,
but there is the possibility that like the smaller PT series lights from MecArmy,
constant current is used without demonstrating any PWM.

No, this is new anti gravitation engine.

Keltex78 his video is a beautiful example of Shannon & Nyquist’s aliasing, which can be compared with PWM visibility

Andrew & Amanda announced this light will be featured as their daily special this Tuesday, April 18.

The price will be only $20………
