While we’re guessing, I know how you feel about assumptions and all that, but putting you on the spot, if you absolutely HAD to guess, when do you think FW3A sales will begin? Do you think/hope May sounds reasonable?

Think we can engineer it to not need a battery?
Electrolyte solution cathode in the battery tube, some sort of resin coating on the inner tube for the separation layer then the tantalum body is the anode.

May I propose the FW3O – The Osmium Edition.
Osmium is the densest element, is ridiculously hard, super high melting point, very rare (though not as expensive as gold). It also has a beautiful blueish/cold silver color. Heat transfer similar to iron, so better than titanium. Basically impossible to machine… So perfectly unreasonable for a flashlight Big Smile

Well while we are naming exotic hard to machine metals…
FW3ST – Stellite
FW3CA – Carbide
FW3TU – Tungsten
FW3CR – Chromium
FW3CE – Ceramic
FW3CO – Cobalt
All are quite fun to machine. I do get to machine some pretty exotic materials and its always a fun learning experience.

Lurking flashaholic, Ive bought all my flashlights through lurking here, BLF A6, Sofirn C8F, Soforn Q8, Emisar D4, and a few not so budget lights but I mod them all the same! Been waiting for the FW3A to come out for years now.......

And for the more sci-fi folks we have the
FW3DM – Dark Matter
You have to keep it in a vacuum suspension chamber next to your Uranium and Plutonium models underneath your volcano evil lair.

We are currently 3D printing wear parts from these metals at my place of employment.
Stellite is quite popular for use in caustic environments.

Yeah we use it for reactor plant valve seals and some turbine parts. I got to do some work with sintered parts as well a while back and we made some stuff from sintered Tungsten and ceramic with Molybenemum. Surface finish requirements were sub 20 RA using a Mitsubishi wire EDM and a tolerance of -+ 0.0001. What a flashlight that would make huh?

You joke, but what about a GaN FET driven flashlight. I figure if its good enough for chargers, why not flashlights?

I would like a FW3CH in bakelite

with a nice touch of plaskon

Would add a playskool version with bright colors to detect flashlight modders at an early age

Or more seriously something like the EverBrite 9-LED 3AAA Facepalm

And now for something completely different….
There are 2 materials that are not the most practical out there but one is practical enough to have a niche and the other – I don’t know but maybe.

1. Beryllium copper. High conductivity CuBe has good thermal properties and is much tougher than pure copper. Machining requires seriously good ventilation though.
2. Magnesium. Thermally – ok to good. Mechanically – passable. Weight – superb. Price – high but way lower than some exotics. Corrosion is a problem. Is it a blocker that can’t be resolved well enough for a reasonable price? I don’t know.
