good budget Neutral AAA w/ moon light?

Hey all, seeking some recommendations. I currently EDC a Fenix LD01. Love the light but it misses on two points for me that I want to replace it. Neutral tint and a firefly mode (less than a lumen). Seeing that this is more of a want, my budget is $10-18cdn all in. I like the specs on the thrunite AAA’s but it’s over my budget. I also see that the astrolux A01 is on sale right now. Are there others that fit my needs? Thanks.

Update: July 10. Did the pencil trick suggested here and it seems to have fixed the NMM. Reverts back to moon mode after being off for at least 5 secs. Shorter will go to next bright mode.

Update: July 6-A01 finally arrived from Bg. Dissappointed that it does indeed have NMM. Gamble didnt pay off. Insructions contradict it. Shame.

Update: May. bought Astrolux A01 from bg

Astrolux A01, how about that
edited:ah, you already mention, i have 3, and they are all good
BLF 348 is a good choice too, but only 1 mode, so

for the Astrolux, would you say it is less than a lumen?

Please be aware that the currently produced A01 now has the dreaded NMM (next mode memory). It’s so annoying that I resold mine on eBay (with no $ lost) 2 days after I received it.

the last astrolux a01 i bought was 1 month ago, from BG, no NMM

That’s weird because I purchased mine around 2 months ago, also at BG. It was the copper BLF+ version, so maybe that makes a difference.

gotta admit first time hearing about NMM. it would be a deal breaker for me. I make just take the chance on the non BLF ones from BG.

Yes, spec puts it at 0.14 lumen, if I remember correctly.

It is pretty dim, perfect for reading the menu with, in a dark restaurant.

Note that all 3 of mine are the original Manker-made version. Not sure if things changed post Manker.

Well it’s settled then, get a copper A01, such beauty!

Currently on the fence. i read a post over at cpf he ordered 3 back in Feb and they all had the next mode memory UI. but mrheosuper ordered a month ago and said it didn’t have it. could be a gamble.

maybe somebody will sell one to you?
(or the older good regular one,) WTS ad could help out.

Was my experience too. About a few weeks ago I order the Old Lumens version of the copper A01 & it too came with NMM. Made the light practical useless. It was the 1st time I heard of this light having it & soon BG is supposedly going to send me a new head correcting this flaw…

Yes, for a cheap AAA light with great neutral tint and a moonlight mode, you can’t beat the Astrolux A01. I’ve got a few. It’s probably my most-used indoor light. The moonlight mode is about 0.1 lumens, which is perfect for middle-of-the-night.

Too bad about NMM. Are people sure it’s not just a stronger capacitor that results in very long delay times? Mine are all the original Manker A01’s, but they all have pretty-long delay times (5-10 seconds).

I left mine alone for a few hours to check & it was still showing NMM :disappointed:

That’s really strange, because it would imply they added an EPROM or something like that to save modes. Seems like a redesign that would add to the cost, but make it worse???

Has anyone left it for days or weeks, to verify they really are memorizing the current mode?

In any case, whether it’s an EPROM or simply a capacitor that refuses to drain, hours of delay is not acceptable.

Thru nite Ti-3. I know you said it was over your budget. Available on amazon for $13.00 used like new. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ol/B00EC0FY1O/ref=mw_dp_olp?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Or you can likely find a coupon code for buying from the thrunite website. My experience with the quality of the thrunite light vs manker E01 (copy of astrolux) is the thrunite is much higher quality and great customer service. Sometimes it is worth the money for the quality.

I’m on the Ti3 boat. If you need a sub-lumen level and NW lighting, it can’t be beat. I swapped mine (NW too and beautifully tinted, just like my Convoy S2 in 4C) for a Lumintop Tool only because of the switch functionality and even then I think it’s temporary until the novelty of the Tool wears off; everything else is just too good to pass up.

If it’s out of your budget, wait until a sale happens.

I bought my Astrolux A01 last February on Amazon and this is what the instructions state and how the flashlight operates. It has awesome tint and is quite bright given its size.

i dont think NMM is that bad, after 10s it auto start at moonlight, so it’s not so annoying(more comfortable then 5 mode cheap chinnese light)

Thrunite T10? It’s not an AAA but not a huge AA light either, and it’s got firefly. And around ~20$ (US).
