I discovered a new site called flashlitZ, they’re in Tulsa Oklahoma which isn’t all that far from me (all things considered) They were offering a 10% off discount on a first purchase from the store so I used that and the introductory pre-order price. I was impatient, as I have about 20 days before I have surgery and after that I’ll be out for probably 2 months. My G35 is in Austin, about 60 miles South of me and the hub that will send it to my home town. So it will definitely be out for delivery Monday morning. Smile

I aim to do as much of a review as I can accomplish, under the circumstances. If it’s not glued I’ll disassemble it and get pics. If it’s glued, I don’t know that I’ll be able to defeat that in my present condition.

I received e-mail notification that my G35 is out for delivery, so another couple of hours should have it in my eager little hands!
Will post about some initial findings, of course…

Got a package today. Smile This is not a review light, nor is it from this group buy. I found someone closer to me and ordered it on the 6th, remarkably it got here today, the 15th, ahead of schedule as everywhere I saw this light listed it was on a Pre-Order status.

Light looks really good, finish is spot on with no visible mars or blemishes. Fit’s the hand really nicely, it’s like a grown up version of the UT02, in virtually all respects. With a tail switch AND a side switch, both giving the same functions, operation is very easy. Holding both buttons down simultaneously for 2 seconds locks it out. If you hit a button while in lockout it blinks red 3 times, reminding you that 3 quick clicks of either button will remove the lockout. Doing so gives you the 2 blinks of the LED signifying lockout is toggled and it returns to off. (If you hold the light upside down in your hand, such that the index finger is at the tail cap, it’s fairly easy to do the lock-out with one hand, even with my hands being on the small side.)

The reflector is significantly larger than the UT02, it’s got a flat reflective area around the emitter, would’ve liked to have seen a wider aperture with the centering ring filling the space. There are some of the usual slight artifacts showing that it’s an HI Cree emitter, nothing really obnoxious but the little tell tale signs are there. It’s got a nice tight semi-bright aura around the hot spot, Looking at the reflector it’s well done but not the best I’ve seen. You have to look hard though to see that it’s not a perfectly smooth mirror finish, there are microscopic giveaways of the machining underneath the mirror plating. Virtually all reflectors show this, so I’m probably OCD about this.

I found that Efest 2500mAh button tops work well, they’re longer than Sony VTC6’s which only allow the single cell slot to work, the other 2 C6’s are loose, not making contact. So I soldered copper buttons on the Sony flat tops, got contact but it could be broken with a hard shake, soldered another of my thin copper buttons on (two thin discs on each cell) and now everything is great with the VTC6’s. Should be plenty of room for protected cells, and virtually any cell should be capable of producing the current this light is drawing… especially with 3 cells in place. With one cell, the level 4 (top setting) is of less output as you’d expect, but still decent in spite of this. Great that the driver gives an emergency option, to use one 18650 or 2 CR123 cells. Versatile.

With the C6’s not freshly charged, I see these numbers…

28.74 Lumens
121.10
393.3
2114.85 at start (after the other readings) 2038.95 at 30 seconds.

At 5 Meters testing, I got 223.5Kcd for 945.52M throw.

EDIT: At the emitter, voltage and current read as follows…

0.03A at 10.49Vf
0.08A at 10.92Vf
0.24A at 11.53Vf
1.88A at 13.97Vf

With only one VTC6 it does 1486.95 lumens in level 4.

All in all it’s a very marked improvement over the UT02, a light that I like a lot already… so the Klarus will certainly become a weekly favorite on my 600 yard walk. Big Smile

Guys? This is a really neat light in stock form, I can’t knock it as it performs very well.

If you’re planning on modifying it, I don’t recommend it. For several reasons. Leave it alone and use it, you’ll enjoy it a lot, just don’t plan on modifying it and you’ll be very happy. Smile

Unfortunately, I have decided not to buy any more Klarus products until they honor their warranty with a BLF members failed Klarus light. http://budgetlightforum.com/comment/1128216 I hope others will take a moment to read the link before they consider buying anything more from this company. Its also not too late to cancel your order.

I own several Klarus lights and have never had a problem with any of them. Having said that, I have read several others that have been ignored when a warranty issue crops up. I hope we can all do the right thing and help support the less fortunate by avoiding Klarus products until they honor their warranties.

M4D M4X – Thank you for putting together a very nice deal on this flashlight. I realize you earn a commission on your sales. Please dont take this personalty. You have pulled off many great buys for us, and we appreciate that. Being who you are, maybe you can find someone in Klarus that can effect change to regain our confidence in their company.

Thank you for reading.

Cells are series/parallel? What is current consumption from battery on Turbo?

1.88A at the emitter at 13.97Vf. Difficult to get read on the cells for current draw.

Two cells positive down, one cell positive up. One of the bays is set up such that the light will work on one 18650, or two CR123, in an emergency. Slightly lower output and of course less run time. Nearly 1500 lumens on a single 18650 where it does 2114 at start 2038 at 30 sec with all 3 cells installed. (Sony VTC6 with added button top)

Anybody here know how this is done? The 3 cells are joined at the tail cap by what appears to be a pressed in steel disc. There is a momentary e-switch in the tail that has a corresponding contact pad on the spring side and the tube has a spring loaded brass plunger for this momentary switch, so the light works the same through either momentary, side or tail. So is the light using all 3 cells and a Buck configuration? Or does it ignore the single bay and do a Boost on the two cells? In the below pics, it’s B1 that works as a single cell, you can add B2 and B3 for 3 cell configuration which is the default way to use the light.

The retaining ring has an inset shelf on the inside that captures the tail pcb, it’s loose so it can freely rotate. Worthy to note that this retaining ring is left hand thread…

The electronic features of this light seem well thought out, it’s driven right up to it’s sweet spot, or dang near, and is easy to use. Wish they had reversing on the switch action but oh well, ToyKeeper has me thoroughly spoiled in that regard. Smile

3 cells and Buck configuration not give 13,97V at the emitter
