Bought one shortly before the price jumped and waited for a looooooong time before the light was delivered. Got worried about the above mentioned thread, but the light was delivered, with the original price. DX played it well. Some other shops would have just canceled and offered refund..
And sure it was good for that price! (IIRC I later modded it with R2 emitter, making it even better)
I have a couple of the EDI-T P4s they are great lights the ramping mode is hidden 3 quick clicks brings you into the hidden ramping mode one more click to set it. Mine will set very low if you click 4 times fast you can get to a moon low setting. They make great bike lights when zoomed out and all 3 of mine have a nice neutral tint.
Hmm.. Sounds interesting. Checked my EDI-T P4, but noticed that I had modded it with this driver board as well. Not a big deal actually, since the modes are well spaced in that (0.04A, 0.25A, 1A).
Maybe I still have the original driver somewhere. I'll try to find it and test if it has the hidden ramping mode as well..
BTW: Has anyone tried adding yet another 7135 to the free slot (see pic below) in the above mentioned driver? Should make nice 1.4A..
If you get the p-4 that ramps ....when you're on high just double click(half click /fast ) and it will start ramping up till it max's then it will start heading down ..to set it you turn it off and then back on and it will be where you stopped it .. there is also a shortcut to the lowest low ...rather than trying to stop it at the correct moment while ramping ,which is virtually impossible ...instead ..When on in high mode you just triple click(half click) fast and it will go to the lowest low setting ...Nice light with great knurling .. not a bad tint , not terribly bright 1.Amp ,some slight outer edge rings .maybe it's greatest flaw is it's seriously bad PWM..,,But with the cool ramping feature it's something you'll probably opt to just live with .
The upside of the ones that are being shipped from DX these days is they don't have the nifty ramping driver so it begs for a harder driven driver or one without nasty pwm .
All in all great light .. great feel ..My kind of light
gets a Boaz Recommend
If you owned one of these lights at one point you probably thought the light was going bad ..you'd probably accidentally hit the ramping mode or super dim mode by mistake ....people like these lights . they just need a emitter upgrade (neutral)to sweeten up the tint.
Ramping mode: is a "mode" or "feature" the driver has, which allows you to select a determined value of light..
For example, we see flashlights which have 3 modes, low-med,high. Then you can switch them, but the amount of light is "fixed" (i.e. low=25% med=50% high=100%)
The ramp mode allows you to select from 1% to 100%(more or less), any value you want, you fix it at the value you want...
