18650 headlamps

Hi all,

I’m looking for a new headlamp in an all purpose category. I’m hoping for adjustable brightness and a beam area that might be similar to what the CONVOY S2 orange peel puts out. It would be best if it is durable and water resistant as I will probably beat it up a bit.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions. I’m not opposed to builds by any means.

I have a couple of these and I think they are pretty good so far. They are available for a ridiculously low price of around $9 bucks right now and seem to work quite well.

I can’t help you with the beam pattern, but it does have ‘infinitely’ adjustable brightness.

They are available at GearBest.

Ditto. I got like 6 of ’em, a couple as gifts, the rest for me.

Can’t possibly go wrong…

I am biased because they are by far my favorites….

  • Nitecore HC50
  • Nitecore HC60

I have a bunch of different brands… but these two are the only ones that get used almost daily.

Welcome to BLF also.

Skilhunt H03 :+1:

You know, that is a good light. Mine has the “flip down diffuser”.
But for the life of me I can’t get used to wearing it as a headlamp because the reflector part is not centered on my forehead. :person_facepalming: It must be my OCD kicking in.
So, I just use it as an angle head flashlight. And a good one it is to. :+1:

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I’m going to go for an HC 60 package unless something else shows up that’s mind blowing.

If you like the convoy S2,why not just get an elasticated headband for it - they even do one that takes 3 convoys;) I’ve got one and put in a convoy s2+, works really well, often use it as a backup light to my hc90 when caving.
The hc50 or 60 is a good choice too

I’ve got a ‘normal’ H03 with TIR optics and a H03F with that silly little flip down diffuser
My H03F has an Astrolux S1 18350 battery tube. Very cute.
But i’m always a little afraid it will break off…

I agree. I don’t like it as a headlamp either for the same reason.
For close up things the position of the reflector part is a little annoying (to me).

Yeah, me too.
They’re just very nice angle lights.
I have the H15 too.

I’ve got the TIR H03 and love it, I don’t really notice the off-center light on my forehead. I really appreciate the additional features like tailcap magnet and included clip. However, probably the biggest seller was the nice diffused beam, I use it a lot for close up work outside at night and its perfect.

You know, I’ll probably end up doing that as well. The S2 is part of my EDC so it would be nice to instantly turn it into a headlamp as well. I should have realized that someone already makes it. I was trying to think of ways to do that by myself.

I really like my Nitecore HC30. Works well in the provided strap or with the pocket clip in my pocket. By far one of my favorite lights. That being said, I’d love to pick up a Skilhunt H03 w/ the flip down TIR, but I’m a little concerned about how prone the TIR is to breakage.
