Advice needed 1aa - last resort light

Im looking for a single aa light for my emergency kit.

This is to be a last resort sort of thing (backup to convoy s2+), I do search and rescue in the bush, and a lot of trail running, so the light I’m after has some sorta specific requirements. I need something that may never be used, but must be reliable. After extensive googling and reading endless forum posts, I figured you guys could point me in the right direction.

1aa
Useable low (0.5 - 3 lumen)
50 ish lumen mode
Neutral or warm tint preferred
$40 ish usd
Long runtimes on 50ish lumens
Works on lithium primaries
No electronic switches (seem to be a point of failure from my googling)
Lighter and smaller the better
Beacon mode is a bonus
Able to lockout

I’m considering thrunite t10 but the firefly seems a bit low, and next step up is only 12 lumen.
Jetbeam jet1 mk is looking good, modes look well spaced.

Any advice appreciated.

My vote’s for the Jet 1. Twisty, so that’s its own lockout.

Sale’s on at GB, so you can get 3 and still stay within your budget.

The Klarus Mi7 might suit your needs. I have one that has become my EDC. It has a physical lock out that will prevent any parasitic drain. There are codes available that puts it midway in your price range the modes seem to suit your needs though they are brighter than your specs.

E10R Jetbeam is my pick for the cockroach (last thing standing) torch.

Leave a primary lithium in it and will sit for ten years. Put a 14500 in it for high output and charging. Can even reportedly half charge an eneloop (which is better then nothing). If all else fails pop any AA in it, the most commonly used consumer cell on the planet.

don’t forget that fenix has some nice aa lights

Thrunite Archer 1A is option.

Yes the Klarus Mi7 is good, but it has an electronic switch (physical lock-out is possible though).

Also check the Thorfire TG06S (lots of reviews on this forum)

Hard to find a light that ticks all the boxes

Another bump for the Jetbeam Jet-I MK. Used and abused over the past year and it’s a tough one that just works. Perfect mode spacing with memory.

I would suggest Jetbeam Jet 1 also.

This. Mechanical primary switch. The 0.1 level seems brighter than rated. Good run times at various levels. Mine survived a hard drop and never flinched.

The Jetbeam Jet-I MK is a great light. I like it a lot.
But the tint is not neutral or warm.

I would go for a Jetbeam Jet-I MK too. Some of the others mentioned are side switch types and therefore potentially in my view less reliable. The Jet is well built and I can’t think of anyone posting about one failing on them.

Don’t buy Three …Buy 4 and be 4$ over your budget …. this is as cheap as i’ve seen this light in a very long long time .Don’t ever recall having heard anyone ever have a negative comment about anything except the tint … I jumped on a pair

Thanks for the info & tip on the Jetbeam Jet-I MK. :+1:

M4DM4X has a good deal code on the Jetbeam Jet-u (1 x AAA) if anyone is interesred. I picked up a few of them for myself & to gift.

Got a couple of the 1 MK’s too….

Mi7 is fine UNLESS you get the silver version. Will not lock out mechanically due to being bare aluminium. The Mi7 also has the advantage of working with AAA cells in a pinch due to it’s very long spring.

Looks like the jetbeam will be the one. Tint is just a preference, size weight and runtimes are priority. Thanks for your input everyone.

I don’t know if you are familiar with Eneloop rechargeables Trippwire, but from my 10 + years experience using them…… you would be hard pressed to do better.

They will hold the majority of their charge for years when in storage or left unused in a light. And I can back that statement up from personal experience of just over 5 years in a light that was misplaced under the seat in one of my trucks.

Also, the first Eneloops I bought over 10 years ago are still going strong too & they are used on a regular basis to this day.
