Has anybody put together a thread for current best microBudget deals? For lights in the $1-$3 range, and explaining what you get between each discrete increment?
This could be an awesome topic
I got a few zoomies falling into this category, will edit on some links and descriptions later.
nice!
What about shipping?
Those Q5 zoomies are usually around $2, I’ve seen them as cheap as <$2 shipped.
I have this one the way, was the cheapest 1xaaa I could find at 0.77usd delivered.
I’d rather depend on my night vision than use a POS like that.
I think it’s better to have a < $ 5 topic.
Already have one like that:
It would be silly to depend on something like this, I just find it amazing someone can make and send something like this around the world for less than it cost me for postage on a letter within the town I live
got one of these, really bad
Got a couple of these:

dont thin they got uking kranding but for this price and a cheap AA cell really cool to be able to lights something at 100 meter, yes not kigh quality but for this price dang bang for the buck for sure
Yeah, but it’s ebay only in that thread.
That’s true. It’s crazy.
Here’s a $5 light at costco with batteries but you have to buy 2. Not the best reviews. But cheaper lights in the 1-3$ range you might feel comfortable as a give away.
I understand what you are saying, but most people have never been in a completely dark place. Even the darkest, moonless, foggy night is not as dark as the inside of a building that has lost electrical power.
Got that right! Once when the building where I work had smoke or something in the basement, FD came and killed power to the building to keep anything from going up in flames. The emergency-lights in the (windowless) hallway worked for a coupla hours, but they eventually went dead. Just like Rick James sez, “Darkness, everyone! Darkness!”.
I was like the only one who even way back then carried a real flashlight (and amazingly, no one else even had a coin-cell operated keychain light or anything). Ringy beam from a 2×AA Taskforce light refitted with a Mag LED bulb, and I was Da Bomb™.
I wasn’t worried, but it sure was eerie watching the emergency lighting fade and die, one by one. I turned off my flashlight just once; I did not repeat that little trick. The best light is the one you have on you, not the S*refire at home in a drawer.
I miss that blackout. Kinda wishing for another one at work…
The reason I mention this is, with the odd weather we’ve been having, you never know just when you are going to need a light. Recently, a local Walmart lost power for a day and a half. Got me thinking. Now I never go into such an enclosed place without a light, one that is tried and true.
Even in my shorts and teeshirt, I don’t even go outside at night without a light. Big honkin’ F13 to a tubelight, don’t care, just A Light™.
If someone else wants to carry a $2 light in their pocket, you’d better believe that they’ll be everyones’ new best friend if the lights go out. Mostly what fails these cheapo lights is leaking alkaline batteries. One of the ways these lights can be sold so cheaply is by eliminating the switch. Make it a twisty! Thought about doing that with a Mag build . . .
Ever look up “match mod”? Drill out a Minimag to take a P90. Use a 2×AA boost driver (800mA) and nice XM-L2, and you’ll be representin’ in no time. No switch, no blinkies, just a nice 1-mode donk that you can use with a reflector, TIR, aspheric, or as a mule. The possibilities are endless…
Great little platform, even with alkaleaks (or a pair of eneloops!). Have at it…
