Why doesn't china sell old lights cheap ?

Is this standard busness procedure in Asia ..?

I think I've heard somewhere that asian companies don't drop the price on old stock and blow it all out the door like western companies . Can someone verify this or am I dreaming ?

I'd like to buy some old lights to upgrade them and have a fondness for them... Their styling or build quality ..But ... I can't fathom paying more for a q2 light than i can for a new light with an xml ..what's going on here ?

I had that thought before so you're not alone Boaz.

They are greedy?

The majority of flashlight buyers are not members of our forum, or any forum, who live in Timbuktu, Siberia and other places who will still buy older models because they don't know any better.

It's the same with a lot of Ebay buyers, they believe the BS lumen numbers, etc., because they failed to do research.

Maybe it's because you can't get much cheaper than dirt cheap. Especially with free shipping...

I didn't know anything about cree before i join this forum, I almost bought a 120 lumens gun light on craigslist for $175

That's a close shave you will never forget.LOL

We are here to share the knowLEDge.

I don’t think there are any old lights. DX does carry any inventory (to speak of) so they may have old product descriptions on their website but it isn’t old stock.

If a company still makes a light with a XR-E Q2 it’s just because they can…just like Surefire. If people are still buying them and if they still have a reel of Q2’s why discount them. The labor to make them is still the same.

It’s not different in the West in that regard. The difference here is that companies have inventory and thus a carrying cost and that’s where the “blow out” prices come from.

This. I can't imagine the profit margins on any of the budget lights are particularly high, they rely on volume of sales rather than profits on each sale in order to make money. So, unlike branded lights which have a very high profit margin per light, they simply cannot drop their prices much more if they expect to see any earnings.

You'll notice that the price often goes up as something becomes popular in the forums. It may be that the "supply and demand" algorithms lock in higher prices as stock goes down, even if it's outdated by current offerings? With so much stock to keep track of and new stock coming in, maybe they just don't have the time to go through NOS until they decide to have the occasional blowout sale or clearance.

... They do go down a bit on the street. My old Tank007 M10 was $200 hkd originally. Now you can walk out and get them for $88 (less w/bargaining)

I wonder what the production runs are like. A friend of mine described chinese scooter (moped, whatever) production as being a 'super cottage industry' approach in parts of china, where the 'manufacturer' just hands out specs and does final assembly. A 2 week DX-style 'order is being packaged' lead time is enough to get new ones made (even just a box of 20/50), and shipped to DX...
