Weird Request: moonlight mode only driver?

So my 2 year old son has gotten into flashlights and loves to grab my c8, convoy s2+, ect. I have turned them on moonlight mode so he can have at it and he has a blast with it. I just want to know if their is a driver or mod that will only allow moonlight mode for safety. Any Ideas?

You can order drivers from Richard with any mode(s) you want. I would say, get the cheapest AMC7135 based driver you can get, have him remove all but one AMC7135, and have him program it for single mode/moonlight only.

EDIT: Try this one. There isn’t an option on this driver ordering page for choosing your own custom modes, but I know Richard will do it if you ask him, since the option is present on other drivers.

I wouldn’t give a 2 year old a lion powered flashlight

I don’t advocate giving a LiIon to a 2yr old but even a 2yr old will find ML alone disappointing and still seek out your lights.
I would use the driver DavidEF posted and remove 2 of the 7135 chips, maybe one at a time to see how bright it still gets… Atleast he will have different modes to play with. Most ML modes aren’t visible in daylight and too dim to be really useful in dark. I would opt for Low only.

May I suggest a 1.5V AA twisty you can turn on for him in a dim mode and keep it tight enough so he can not change it.
I only have a couple AA lights but they do not do what I suggest… no recommendations.

Sounds like a lumen hunter

Yeah I wouldn’t hand a li-ion light to a kid, even in forced-moon mode. Just get him a puny 4D Incan Maglite. Won’t even produce 100 lumens so no worries and he can also use it as a bat.

matg. I recently bought a couple FET+1 drivers, with bristro firmware from Richard and there is the option to set between 1-7 modes as well as turn on or off moonlight. The lowest mode is probably 3-6 lumens with my XPL LED and moonlight is sub 1 lumen. With a driver such as this, you can still use the light as normal after you reset the modes.

Coin-cell operated LED keychain-light?

If not, there are bare “partition boards” (same size as a driver, but just the center pad to contact the positive end of the cell). Solder the LED to that through the appropriate-valued resistor. Only problem is that I’ve only seen them in 20mm, not 17mm.

Or use one of these, https://www.fasttech.com/products/1612/10017778/3647301-350ma-1-mode-led-flashlight-driver-circuit-board , but you can also splice in a resistor to limit the current.

Lol yeah I know I shouldn’t give him a li-ion light but he wants the lights that I use nothing else matters to the little guy. Monkey see monkey do. I don’t see the harm as long as it’s a low powered light when I let him have it. I have him a little button light but it didn’t last lol. If I can switch the modes like eebowler is talking about I’d be good. I’ll search around for some drivers. Thanks
