I apologize…I ran through this a couple years ago…
But I want to see what is out there now. I will post a pic of a finished light tomorrow.
I currently use an SC600, 3/4” loc-line (18” or so), a rare earth magnet and a spring clamp.
I modded a bolt so it would fit in the tailcap and under the spring. The light then is used in-line with the loc-line…
I am going to make a few for the guys at work, but have to source and pay for the light, battery, magnet and clamp myself….
And getting people to pay $95 for just the light isnt going to happen. I had thought that using an Olight s20 would work…But I think they are not made anymore?
Trying to find a decent light at or under $40, putting out 4-500 lumen…With a side switch … flood is better than throw since it is a close quarters light for working in various industrial settings…
Discuss?
Nice!!
How sturdy is that connection with the light?
It looks like the only constraint is how good you can attach a light
If it is rock solid a lot will work think convoy S series
Wouldn’t do it with a GT though
Emisar D4 is $40 on MTN electronics website. Way brighter than you probably need though. Is twist on/off acceptable as well or does it have to be side switch?
The Miller…If you mean the physical connection from the tailcap to the first orange segment (Locline surface mount) it is absolute. I modded a 1/4” bolt… turned head of bolt down, put a couple flats for me to grip with needle nose, and also faced the thickness of said head to 1/16” so it fit under the spring and battery. Inside the first orange segment is a 1/4” nut. The light and orange piece are solid. In fact if you grip it in both hands you can pop the light in half, off the blue segments and use it as a handheld…
The magnet is also high power and given a decent metal surface, suffers no sliding or rotating due to the leverage of the light when extended. If I am explaining that right…
I will be looking at all suggested lights, and yes, Twist would be ok…
The emisar is intriguing… I like the last mode memory… Still, these lights will go to noobs, I wonder how hard it would be to flash it or set it up to be a 500 lumen light.
Basically make it be able to run 2-3 hours and just click on…
That is a great tool that you made, justanotherguy.
For long work you will only want lights that use 18650. Take a look at DQG tiny 18650 and OnTheRoad M6.
Two more lights that are not as short: Sofirn SP32 (cheap) and Thrunite Neutron 2C V3 (Brightness ramping).
Your tool may work even better with angled head lights. I paid less that $25 (with coupon) for my Skilhunt H03.
Olight S20 is discontinued but you can still buy it. It is the only one in my list that may run on max power for long without getting very hot.
So I settled on the S9… It came, it fits the bill rather well, especially with price in mind…
I think the whole light costs $50
Hard to figure, I ordered the blue and orange locline parts through work…
Without those pieces, the cost is right at $32 + charger
Jetbeam Jet-I for sure, and I think Jet-II, have a threaded-bolt right in the tail (probably ¼–20, but ain’t sure) that’d just screw right on without worrying that a bend will knock it off the magnet.
Oh yeah, you can remove the clip, of course, and slap on some DC-Fix (bug Boaz for some) to diffuse the beam and make it floodier if you want, and protect the front glass from dirt, scratches, etc.
