Compact 1xAA Zoomies

I'm looking for compact zoomies that take one AA battery.

One mode is fine.

If it has multiple modes, I don't want any disco modes or Next Mode Memory.

What I have now is a couple of Meco zoomies that I referenced to in another thread.

(Sorry for the déjà vu)  })

silver_meco_zoomie

I'm looking for something with hopefully a better build quality.

And I'm looking to spend, say, $15 or less.

If you know of any flashlights that fit the bill, please provide a sales/review link.

Thanks!  :-)

I’d be interested in what people come up with too. I personally don’t know of any current products like this, although I’ve bought some in the past that are now discontinued.

Yep, the UKing ZQ looks very similar to the Meco.

I bet the build quality is also similar.

I generally don’t like zoomies, but I did get a super-cheap Sipik clone (this ) awhile ago.

It isn’t bad, especially for the price. (I think it was only a couple of bucks.) You’re certainly not going to get 600 lumens on a AA; it is closer to 55 lumens on a AA. You can run it on a 14500 for higher output.

It’s pretty small. Not as small as 1xAA lights like DQG or Zebralight. But, I’d say it’s compact.

There are plenty of similar lights. Just look for Sipik or SK68 clones. They’ll run off a AA for modest output, or a 14500 for higher output. Usually have 1-3 modes, depending on model. They’re cheap, so don’t expect them to last a lifetime, but they’re good for lights you might lose (or kids might lose).

That's not a Sipik SK68 clone, but it is very popular in this very thread.  ;)

Oh, okay. What are the differences between that and a Sipik clone?

Hello, Raccoon city,
In my opinion of most of cheap multi-modes AA LED flashlights, you can bypass “Multiple modes, disco modes or Next Mode Memory.” by parallel a resistor (~100K Ohm) on driver board’s capacitor. Actually, resistor will discharge the capacitor very quick after turn OFF the light, so it will only turn ON in 1st mode.
Just remember to choose a flashlight will turn ON at highest for 1st mode.
Hope it helps.

The XTAR WK007 is a good AA zoomy. Has memory, and disco modes are hidden.
My review is here: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/55607
(Still need to finish runtime tests and outdoor beam shots).
Starts to significantly dim after 65mins on high using NiMH AA.

The light uses memory mode which I like. When changing modes, the order is:
High>Off>MId>Off>Low>Off>Moonlight>Off> (note: with AA, High and Mid are similar in output)
There are also two strobe modes. The slow flash mode is accessed by a tap, and press and from off. There is also a fast flash mode that varies between two Hz rates. However, I could only access this by trial and error.

but I don't know about that UI.

Decent UIs are somewhat lacking in the compact zoomy department. The XTAR has one of the better ones, but is far from perfect.

I don’t know if the lumens specs are really accurate…but, this seems to look a bit like what you want!
AA, just ON / OFF (at least no other indications of modes), zoom.

Maybe you can contact the seller to ask if the it is really on/off Wink

Hope this helps! Wink

Here's the same flashlight on Amazon:

Good for those in the U.S.

raccoon, are you going to get one of those? I’m interested in knowing if it’s a decent quality host or not.

And here's the flashlight on eBay...

From China:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1000LM-SecurityIng-CREE-XP-E2-LED-Flashlight-3-Modes-Zoomable-Torch-AA-Battery-/362050695949

From Kentucky:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1000LM-SecurityIng-CREE-XP-E2-LED-Flashlight-3Modes-Zoomable-Torch-w-AA-Battery-/311637813404

EDIT:  Should I pay an extra $2 to get it from the U.S.?

UPDATE:  I made an offer on the China auction.

Somehow, the “SecutiryIng” (or Securitylng) seem to have some cool lights! Gotta take a look at them Wink

I guess you’ve noted but those from Ebay are 3 modes (eventually High-Low-Strove, as usual…) .
The one I sent the link seems to be 1 mode only!
I sent a message to the seller asking if it is really just 1 mode and if it takes 14500 batteries as well!
When they answer me, I’ll let you know if you want it! Thumbs Up

It surely takes more time to be delivered than those from Amazon or even Ebay, but if it does make the difference in terms of the UI, or quality…I don’t know if you’d be willing to give it a try Wink

BTW, DavidEF, I’ll probably get one, depending on the seller’s answer. If it is a 3 mode, I’ll pass Arrow Right

The sellers might be thinking that On/Off, Zoom In, and Zoom Out make three modes.

That's what I'm hoping.  8^)

Eheh, some really consider it as modes! So instead of 1 we get 3, instead of 3 we get 5 Big Smile

I ordered 2 of those securitying zoomies from ebay, thanks for the tip. I think they may make good hosts, what is promising is that I see a standard tail with PCB and screw-in retaining ring.

I have one of those Securitying AA zoomies. My impressions:

1. Anodizing is excellent. It’s a perfect matte black. the words “Securitying” are very crisp and clear. Looks much higher quality than the finish on a typical Sipik 68.
2. Overall shape of the light feels good. It’s a bit long for a AA light. Still usable, but defnitely not in the miniature category either.
3. It has a twist zoom rather than a push-pull. This makes the zoom harder to cycle with one-hand, but allows more waterproofing since the stiffer zoom can stay in place even against air pressure changes.
4. Been awhile since I looked inside, but my recollection was that the aluminum pill is very small. I think even a 15mm driver needed some filing at the edges to fit. I don’t recall if I had to also file the star down.

Hum, the twist zoom is not so fun, but no problem with that, though.
Does it have 1 or 3 modes?
Thanks for your input in this Wink

Hey, I received confirmation from the seller (my previous message). It only has On/Off and only takes AA battery, not 14500 Wink
I guess I’ll order one, just to try them! Maybe the host is nice, or maybe I’ll stick with the stock light Wink

Hope this helps! Wink
