LED + driver update for old budget thrower

Hi all.

I have this old budget thrower.

Imgur

Here it is next to the Convoy C8

It’s a 2-mode low/high/off light

So I was wondering if it was possible to mod/upgrade the LED and driver for the light.

Here are some measurements:

LED board: 19,70mm

Pill inner: 21,50mm

Pill outer: 22mm

Spring/driver board: 17,1mm

Any hint to where I should/could buy part that fit this.
Or if it’s possible at all

(I assume this is a single 18650 light…)

XP-L HI @ 3A with a 105C would be a good start.

Simple, inexpensive, bright, throwy.

Haha, $8.80 upgrade. That was delightfully cheap

There are other options if you like, Direct Thermal Path PCB, FET driver, etc, but you can reach the point of diminishing usefulness. I recommended those as you should be able to order, get free shipping, and have a noticable improvement in output. Although, some if those old XR-E lights like yours can still be decent throwers with the small emitter and narrow beam angle.

XP-E2 Torch at about 2 amps would also make a good option if you want a tighter beam with less spill.

the most simple mod now is to change the led to DTP 20mm xpl-hi and Direct drive/8*7135 driver
you can get led and driver from mountain, fasttech.etc

Mountain shipping to EU is expensive

You may get a Bistro HD OTSM driver from me

That’s an interesting looking light. Does it have a smooth reflector?
