Nightcore HC50 Headlamp Issues

Hi guys,

I’m just after a bit of help please.

I purchase a Nightcore HC50 Headlamp approximately 3yrs ago, and I absolutely love it, when it works…

Unfortunately the unit has recently started malfunctioning, by not switching on at all.(No indicator light, no response from unit whatsoever.)

I have taken the following checks/steps so far to rectify the problem.

- Checked the battery is fully charged with mult-imeter at 3.79v.(have tested 2 separate batteries the same brand etc)

- The battery is a good quality SoShine 3.7 l-ion 18650 (Rehchargable), and is the same I have always used with the headlamp the whole time.

- I have opened up, and inspected the unit as much as possible, and can see no signs of physical damage or water ingress etc, and have cleaned all contact points & threads with alcohol pad.

- I have tested to see if the switch is malfunctioning, by making contact with the negative point on battery while in device, and there is still no power, so suggests that the switch is working.

- I can see no other way of accessing the unit whatsoever, there are no screws or anything visible, it is only one solid unit, apart from the end cap/switch.

I appreciate this model is probably redundant by now, and it would be easier to replace it, but I simply cannot afford to buy a new one at the moment, so I’m hoping someone out there has the same model, and may be able to make some suggestions.

I’m thinking of emailing Nightcore for an out if warranty repair, but I can’t even find the receipt, as I ordered mine in a group buy.

Would greatly appreciate any feedback whatsoever.

Thanks
Craig

I’ve sent nitecore an hc30 recently (in fact it didn’t arrive to their hands yet)
I think they have a 5 year warranty in all of their lights without an internal battery, just check in their website.
I contacted them and they were very helpful. I didn’t send them a receipt,I suppose in my case was unnecessary because the light was released a couple years ago, well into the warranty period. I know the HC50 is an older model, but don’t know exactly how older it is.
Just contact them and ask for help, the guy who took care of my case was helpful and answered my mails in a very short time

G'day Top Gear,

As per Totilde's suggestion you should contact Nitecore.

You said: "- Checked the battery is fully charged with mult-imeter at 3.79v.(have tested 2 separate batteries the same brand etc) "

Have you actually tried with a fully charged battery at about 4.1-4.2V?

Are you using protected or unprotected batteries? What brand and model are they?

Best Regards,

George

Hi Totilde,

Thanks very much for getting back to me.

That’s great advice contacting Nightcore I will try that link.

Although, with regard to the warranty period, I downloaded the user manual and it says “After 18
months, a limited warranty applies, covering the cost of labor and
maintenance, but not the cost of accessories or replacement parts.” and I’m assuming I will have to pay postage costs to China or something which may not be economic.

I will start by contacting them, and see how I go.

Thanks again for taking the time to get back to me.

Cheers
Craig

G’day George,

Thanks for the reply.

As I said, the batteries I am using are SoShine 3400mAh 3.7v 18650 rechargeable (protected).

And I also have Trustfire 3000mAh 3.7v 18650 protected, freshly charged at 4.1v, and barely fit in the headlamp (must be slightly wider for some reason, and now stuck) still don’t work.

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers
Craig

I had to pay postage to China from Spain, but in my case it was pretty cheap, specially because the hc30 weights just 41 grams. I managed to pack it under 50g and I paid like 6€ for slow tracked parcel. Have in mundo you have to send just the light without accessories. They pay the shipping back to Spain
In Spain the seller must pay the shipping costs both ways but I bought the light overseas, so I can’t complain. Much better than having to buy a new light, and I absolutely love my headlamp

Ok, it may be still worth it, but will be alot more expensive to ship from Australia.
