It has came time for me to buy my first decent multimeter. My price range is between $20 and $50 and I would like it to have all the basic functions covered so my questions are: what functions would you define as being actually useful and what can I go without.
These are the things I would like:
DC and AC Voltage and current measurable to at least 2 decimal places with current having as high a degree of accuracy as reasonably possible (e.g 0.0001A)
Frequency
Capacity testing (are you able to get multimeter with this in built?)
Resistance
I was thinking of this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-MultiFunction-Multimeter-Software-USB-cable-/230698416323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b6b278c3 (I like that it can be hooked up to your PC to record the data...)
However if someone has any other ideas they believe to be better I would love to hear it.
What he said. I got one, it works great. Order it online and pick it up in store, it's 10 bucks cheaper than just going to the store and buying it. I grabbed one in the store, took it up to the site for store place, and they told me to go home and order it for that price and pick it up.... how silly.
Got the wmart one and I am happy with it. Also, +1 for ordering the meter online 1st and then picking it up @ store (usually same day). You'll save $10. I did.
As far as I am aware we do not have Wal-Marts here in NZ (although we do have similar smaller stores) so I will need to find it (as some have mentioned) on a online Chinese stores if I order that model.
I have had a quick look online for information regarding the model I linked to above but am yet to turn up anything. It does come with a 2 year warranty so I am not too worried about it arriving faulty or something like that.
I will look a little more and tell you what I end up with. Cheers
Bugger... now I don't know what I want: This one (which can connect to your computer and record readings)--> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Multimeter-Spannungsmeter-AC-DC-Thermometer-USB-/230700857243?pt=Mess_Pr%C3%BCftechnik&hash=item35b6d7b79b
Or this one (which has an in-built (<10K) lux meter)--> http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-in-1-Digital-Multimeter-LUX-dB-C-RH-AC-DC-/230698223610?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b6af87fa
