I haven’t been keeping abreast of the LED and flashlight modding world for a couple of years, but recently I had a friend who wanted a quality torch, so we ordered a Convoy C8 body, an emitter, and a 8x7135 driver. To my surprise, this new model of C8 from Convoy has an integrated pill design, which is very nice in terms of build quality, but makes modding much more difficult. So this brings me to a couple of questions: Does anyone know if Convoy has any plans to release a “classic” C8 with the traditional pill design? I’m sure there is desire for one in this community. Part of the appeal of C8 to me was that the internals were swappable, in a similar manner to P60 form factor torches (although a bit different mechanism).
Another question I had since I haven’t been in the loop on which CREE emitters are popular, is what emitter is providing the best throw in the C8 platform these days? I’ve read a bit about the XPL HI and that seems to be a good choice, but I wanted to make sure I was going down the right path. I was thinking about purchasing one of those on a 20mm Noctigon.
