Repair blown bond wires on dedomed emitter

I blew the bond wires on my 2xXML2 driver test dummy

somehow touching the LED wire with my AVR programmer killed one

I did not clean up the flux and it burned in the phosphor a bit smoking

Replacements are already delivered XHP50 G2 4000K CRI90 780lm and K4 J4 5700K 1120lm

Hey! You’ve developed a new way to beef up those weak xml2 bond wires!

just thinking if the bond wires cant blew anymore how much current this LED could survive

Pretty awesome you even tried it!

I was forced to try it to get the MF01 drivers tested and shipped

so if someone wants to test them hard I could ship the emitter

Hehe. Nice work Lexel.
I have read many posts here that people failed to dedoom LEDs and broken bondwires.
I wonder how many of those people that’s gonna try your hack. (Unless they already have thrown away their failed LEDs)

What’s the best method for this?
Solder paste? Solder wire? Solder iron or heat gun?

Anyway I’m impressed.

Edit: damn spelling…

You might as well put some solder on that bondwire on the right side of the led to decrease resistance?
Or is that a bad idea?

Are you kidding?
Sure this will reduce the LEDs resistance significantly to a few mOhms, but usually FETs and batteries dont like shorts so much
On all new LEDs is this ESD protection device between positive and negative side

Aah. I was wondering what that wire did.
I learn something new every day
