Anyone have experience with small sun? Ebay X9 about the same price. Which would be the better one to get?

My vote would be TF is the better hands down. I may be wrong though.

Actually if you ask me, just pay a couple of bucks more and go for the FF STL-V6. Too bad the $41 deal is over now. No need to spend more $$ to mod. Can take 2 x 18500/2x18350/2x16340/2x18650) for full regulation (need to use some C8/U8 tubes for the 70mm lengths). Easily out throws + more OTF lumens than X9. Heat sag is very minimal....just did a test, it's even slightly better than the Sunwayman T40CS.

The SR STL-V2 (and FF STL-V6) has 2 sets of modes changeable in real-time, unfortunately both sets have blinkies. H/M/L/SOS/Strobe and H/L/Strobe.

Still not ready to do a multi-cell light, unless it is NiMh. Don't have a balancing charger and don't want to admit that I actually do check the voltage on my batteries all the time anyway;-)

No problem, i understand. But eventually, you would, simply because the 2 cell budgetlights are mostly full regulated. Hence you get that fully constant 800+ lumens output for the whole discharge period. (enough heat disspation allowing that to happen, that is)

+1 for the SR STL-V2. Bought mine from DD for $40 when they offered 20% off. My best thrower . 2100 how does it compare to the TK41? Sorry for off topic comments.

I think its a good deal. It could overthrow SkyRay STL-2 (it ahs the same reflector think, head diammeter is little larger here, but rpobably because of thicker walls, reflector diammeter si rpbably the same).
Design is not bad, little more aggresive than SR STL-V2, but it is pssible, if it is driven harder, that it could overthrow SkyRay STL-V2, which is not driven to the fullest, and the best things it has lowev price.

Regarding X9 copy, ebay trustfire X9 are the same price but underdriven (totally weak beam with stock driver for that light), so you have to buy 5$ drier or make it dd. If it is properly drivne this could be a good deal.

As for X8 copy, again there is a uestion of driver. Weird specs there - saying it ewoulds not worlk at 4,2V, which regural Trustfire X9 does. SO I dont know, Im not so interested in this light. Mainly intersted in SkyRay STL-V2 thrower but I'll wait for a while befre (and if) I buy it.

Pardon the noob question but how exactly do you make it DD?

I don't have the skill to change out the driver.

I would get the Trustfire X8 and X9 over the SmallSun copies as I've looked at the photos on Manafont site and it looks better quality. Also the drive my be a poor version.

But SMALL SUN ZY-T620 looks slightly better than the other SmallSuns, but not as good as On the road X5 in terms of Quality.It look on par with some of the on DX.

The first one listed (the T619) looks nice though...

The only Small Sun I ever owned was this one. I paid $3 for it from DinoDirect on eBay and I got what I deserved. Spent countless hours trying to get it to work right but never did. Sometimes it would turn on(usually when warm), and would seem to be working properly. But once it cooled down, it just wouldnt turn on again until dismantled. Maybe the bigger lights are better. I'd get the Trustfire.
