Convoy C8 or BD01?

I can’t decide which… I have a s2+ and a Fenix ld41, looking for something more. Main use will be bushwalking on narrow trails, no wide open spaces. The s2+ is great for bushwalking, but dosen’t have much throw.

I like the C8, but I’m not sure if the xpl hi will be overkill as I need to see close range. Is the spill dramatically reduced compared to xml2? I like the BD01 because of extra runtime with 26650, but not sure how the big reflector will affect close range spill.

I’ve googled beamshots for all 3 and nearly pulled the trigger on C8 xml2. If anyone has any of these lights I’d appreciate some help deciding.

I dont know if you like zoom lights but this light is all you need , i think
You can have throw and spill in one package

BD01 for your application.
Longer runtime 26650
Side switch so relaxed in hand while walking
Ask for Biscotti driver

Zoomie is also nice for sure to see behind trees

I have both and though I like both I don’t find either exactly perfect for the scenario you are describing. What would be perfect IMHO would be the BD01 with an OP reflector. Unfortunately it only comes in a smooth reflector though I have been talking to Simon about switching it to OP. I’ll have to follow up on that. Biscotti is great in the BD series though and it comes in all if them now. BD06 has a bit nicer beam in my opinion and has the same runtime as the BD01. The BD06 also comes with AR coated glass now if you are buying direct from Simon.

One you may want to consider is the Convoy M2. I find that a perfect balance of flood and throw. It’s one of my favorite lights for walking through the woods if I dont want to lug the big old L6 around. It runs on an 18650 but with a 3500 mAh cell you would get very good runtime. Way more throw than the S2+ but a very smooth beam an a more diffused hotspot and good spill. The M1 would probably have a similar beam.

Edit: if you do decide on a C8 I would ask Simon to use an XML2 and an OP reflector. That will give you a bit more usable spill. I agree that the XPL-HI would not be right for your situation.
