500$ LED

Just came across this, and immediately started to imagine flashlight with this 500W 96 CRI led inside

And then he actually put the reflector on it, so my jaw dropped down !

Take a look

Evidence that it is really out there! Thanks for the link.

I’ve been looking at this led on the Yuji site wondering how it would be, it is nice to see it working in the video! Than fan is one noisy thing though.

Water cooling should be perfect to avoid that jet engine noisy fan

Would be good for off road truck light.

that is one nice LED. Can’t wait for high-cri COBs to come down in price. The cheap COBs currently available are only for basic applications.

Yeah, not going to happen soon.

Yea i watched the video but output is a bit meh for the power draw. That is probably because of the high CRI i do like the small form factor this could be limiting output performance.

Dimension:27 mm × 27 mm x 0.5 mm chip-on-board LED

Color Temperature: 3200K/5600K

luminous Flux (Lumen) 18000-21000/20000-24000

CRI Value (Ra typ.) Above 95

SDCM: Below 3 step MacAdam

Input Current: 12A

Input Voltage: 35V – 39V

Website link here:

For $200 you can get a citizen COB that does 75k lumens.
Not high CRI, but still the most output of any LED on the market.

The output/mm2 LES is about the same though, and Yuji manages to get that output in ultrahigh CRI, that is an achievement. The price/lumen is not so nice :frowning: , 1.9 cents per lumen, while a common XP-L is about 0.4 cents per lumen.

hmm… The 50W LED doesn’t have spectacular specs but the price(~$48) … Do you guys ‘in the know’ believe these are worth the price?

A XHP70(.2) gets you the same output a lot cheaper and from a much tighter source, so you must really love the 96CRI and floody light to go for these big COB’s.

We had this LED discussed before for some diving lights

The 100/500W may be used in some High CRI down lights for big industrial hall lights with a big reflector, replacing HID lights

Of course you can do the same with 10 moderate driven XHP70.2 High CRI, but still they do not have the same color rendering as those COBs

there are more manufactures with CRI96-99 COB LEDs for lightning, like stage lights replacing incandescent lights
like this with
Global Top General CRI R1~R8 values (R1~R8: 95~99Ra )
Global Top Special CRI R9-R15 values (R9: Typ. 96, R12: Typ. 95)

why don’t Yuji make a flashlight !!!

This LED would be perfect in a pocket EDC! :stuck_out_tongue:

Just wait… Dale will probably do it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I decided it’s not worth a new thread… I found an COB that’s too large for us, but nevertheless interesting.
GeTian GT-FC500 is a 500W COB with 30-35 klum output and only 237 mm² LES. Same power Citizen CLU-550 does 39 klum, but with 845 mm² LES.

The citizen LED is specced at 50%.
It can do over 70K lm when at full power.

Oh, thanks for correction. The efficacy difference is striking. But GeTian still offers 60% higher lm/mm².

Very nice video NikolaS! Thanks for putting it so together & sharing with us.
