Knife meanderings

It occurred to me that I can’t think about knives , and not buy a knife . This thought passed through my consciousness as I was buying my third knife on Feebay the other day . Hmmm … Anyhow I started thinking about some of the knives I had purchased over the last few years and just what you get for your money . Is there anything worse than say shelling out $100 and getting a knife with a junk blade on it . Sure it looks good , it feels good but wont take or hold an edge . I purchased two spyderco ( clones ) and the first one was simply amazing for the money ( $20 USD ) . So obviously I wanted another . The second one bites so hard you’d swear there was an alligator attached to your beehive . It will not take an edge , it will not hold an edge .

Now this is not the first time , I had the same thing happen with a NAVY ( brand knife ) . The first was really good for 440 and prompted me to buy another ( different pattern ) . The second was and is disappointing , it will take an edge , but will not hold it long . I have ever only owned two knives that would not take an edge , the first was an american made Schrade ( Budget model ) and this spyderco clone … ( Such is life )

Then I started thinking about price , at what price point did I start getting knives that were , can I say Good ! And the more I thought about it , I came up with $20 USD + . Spending a few dollars more I got knives that surprised me . One that was a complete surprise was the Chinese made R3 Remington . I have a genuine R3 , but thats more a collector knife now and I was looking for a clunker / throw about / abuse the heck out of it knife that could be thrown into a toolbox or the trunk of the car or what ever . When I got it the blade was a little wobbly ( play ) so I threw it in my vice and crushed the pin that holds the blade in place so as to remove play . It’s tight now folks . And when I sharpened the blade it went shaving sharp and not just sharp it also held the edge reasonably well . I think I paid like $20 USD for this knife and now I think of it as being too good to be a knock about knife .

Anyhow , I did buy 3 knives off ebay ( because I was thinking about knives ) , I also re beveled my Bee ( L01 ) which is my go to letter / parcel opener .
That reminds me , I have to go re-sharpen the kitchen scissors …

Cooked , ate lunch ! ( and sharpened the kitchen scissors ) …
3 Knives -
The First one is this Ontario 2 ( Pocket knife )

Now some time ago I did buy the Ontario 1 and was very surprised by what I got ( it was good ) . What I did not like was the size of the knife , just too big for a pocket knife … ( So about a year latter I have dropped coin on the Ontario 2 - hopefully as good as the Ontario 1 = I wish )

Problem with buying just one ! another catches your eye …

I saw this little SRM and seeing a few ?? reviews thought , what the hell .

Now the problem with buying two knives is - Your on a roll , so why stop at two ? Why not just go the whole 9 yards ?

I have seen these on Feebay for some time now and the prices are all over the place , I put in a bid and got it … D2 ? ( ) Yeah , I don’t know about D2 , probably looks good in print ! But I don’t know about the knife having a real Tool Steel Blade ( That would be awesome ) , but I am expecting some sort of Chinese Budget Steel that might hopefully be middle of the road …
Actually this was an impulse buy , so I might perhaps want to go check out some reviews ? ( Maybe )

Sorry mate, where did you find a Remington R3 (chinese) copy/replica?
Thank you.

Feebay ( Ebay ) …

I got it shortly after Camillus shut its doors and Remigtons came out of China , a few years ago now …
Just checked Feebay , not many Remington knives .

I tried to find some meaningful reviews and failed , people seem to talk a lot about nothing ! So I have no idea about over all quality and especially no information about the blade or its ability to take or hold an edge , so to all those alleged reviews - Thanks ! ( Real time wasters )

Hey mate i had the same idea so i done some videos on it. I bought 3 buck clones from different place. One is from Fasttech and the other 2 are from Aliexpress. Ranging from around 8 USD up to 15USD i think.
Most interesting video is the Buck 009 i think it has a far few views and a mad dislike ratio lol. I tried it as throwing knife and it hit the keg and broke lol. Then i found it its not a full tang! lol
The steel on the 009 is real soft compared to the rest but holds an awesome sharp edge.

The classic Buck 480 clone i bent the blade while testing trying to use it to split wood. The metal on this blade feels okay its just a tad thin i still dont think it should have bent unlike the comments i received on the video! People get mad butt hurt lol I think the hardness is okay but its just cheap steel grade.

Best one out of the 3 was the most expensive knife the buck 390 clone. Steel is hard as a nail a bit of a pain to sharpen lol Proper full tang and a fairly thick blade sheath works good and the knife looks okay. This feels like a proper knife so i leave it in my fishing kit now.

People on the net are a funny bunch! I have a Cold steel beaver tail neck knife i bought just for the looks the blade is thin as! Yet i could go outside right now and use it as a survival style knife and it will walk it of. Some of these knives where not built to handle the tests but i had to test all 3 the same. I ended up fixing all the knives i ground the bend out of the buck 480 and resharpen it.

I have bought the exact same knife on DHgate early last year for about the same price. I have never seen that particular handle design in titanium, mine was advertised as steel and at under 20 $ I find it hard to believe that the one listed is actually titanium. If it is, even better because the blade steel on mine, whatever it may be, is really, really good, sharpens quickly and holds an edge reasonably well.

Im looking forward to getting some knives …
Spent perhaps too much time on Feebay window shopping - I want to spend more $$ on knives

Thank you very much.
I’ve never ear about Feebay (what is it?).
I’ve ask about Remington because I’m full of chinese knives, Ganzo/Enlan/Sanrenmu/etc etc but now my old passion for (american) traditional knives is back! So, I’m searching the web for some good prices (especialy the shipping costs!) for Rough Rider/Schrade/Marbles/Remington etc…but my segret dream is to make some money to buy Case, but mostly a couple of G.E.C.!!

FeeBay = Ebay + recently increased fees … ( For sellers )
Ebay is taking from everyone , if you buy then they might snip you on the currency exchange rate … If you sell - Fees have gone up and up and up …

Case knives ? I have a few case , they are ok ! , I dont know that their steel is the best …
Queen knives with D2 = Yeah baby !
Unless your just chasing collector knives , Case (?) got to be careful , some are worth collecting , others not so much . ( Got to do your research )
5 Years ago prices were (?) , 10 years ago prices were Good . ( I should have been less careful with my money 10 years ago - I could have twice as many Camillus / Remington )

Recently sold eight fishing reels on Ebay for a average of about $250 each. Pretty shocked when I got my ebay bill of $50 for just 2 reels. Paid them over $200 just to sell the eight reels. Last time I sold on ebay several years back the fee was somewhere around 4, now 10. Total rip off.

Remington R3 , made and purchased after Camillus closed .
Was advertised as made in China

I have a cart full on knife centre but the shipping kills it. I think they want like 50 dollars just for the shipping. The prices are good compared to here. Mora knives are expensive here I seen some here selling for 50 dollars but they are $15 at knife centre I wanted to try some of them.
I have order knives from them twice before. Amazon has good prices also but no shipping here.

Yeah , Mora are good ! , I have some Mora … The SS is good , but the carbon is great …
