Help Me Create the Ultimate IR Illuminator

I want to put together a super 940nm illuminator.

I would like to use the LED Engin 940nm 12V LED: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/LED-Engin/LZ4-40R708-0000/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtjb30GAx%2FDT%2F81wlzsucHnw%252bQ7fNCK%2F57BpfVdlJUkBQ%3D%3D

It’s rated for 700ma, but looks like I could drive it up to 1a.

This illuminator will be weapon mounted so I don’t want a ginormatron light. A T20 size light is perfect. I also prefer an adjustable aspheric lens so I can focus the light into fied

What are my host and driver options?

Nice IR LED. But 12V is a bit of a problem in a small host I guess?

I used the SFH4715AS 850nm in the Brinyte B158 host. Works well! The SFH4715AS-EA looks interesting as well.

I also bought a SFH4725S LED (940nm) but fried it before I could use it. I only bought one and the SFH4715AS should illuminate better with my NV scope anyway.

I have used the SFH 4715AS at 1.5 amp and it is a very good illuminator. However, it is easy to see the IR source. My hope is use a powerful 940nm LED to get the same illumination, but without the red visibility of the 850nm LED.

I was looking at building a new IR light myself. So will be watching this thread.
What night scope are you using?

Edit question answered.

@rat I will use a home made night vision scope and scanner.

I have not found any 17mm drivers that convert 1 18650 to 12v output at 0.7 to 1 amp. Presumably it could handle the load, but it’s not a common configuration.

It looks like a jaxman z1 with a fx35 driver will have to be my choice.

I hope I can use a 34mm scope ring to mount light to a weapon.

@Lexel I just ordered those for my T20

I’m thinking the larger die 12v will put out more “light” with lower power levels. This will translate to reduced IR source brightness detectable by eye.
