Hey Guys,
I’m thinking of buying the new OLight S1 Mini Baton. It’s hardly a budget light so i just wanted to see what you guys thought first? I’m going to use it as a general day-to-day EDC. Is OLight quality good? It seems to ticks all the boxes for an EDC. Compact size, magnetic tail cap, reversible pocket clip, 90 CRI version etc…
Has anyone bought one yet who can comment? Just don’t want to be the first person who bought one lol. I could only find one review online which is here:
I’ll have one by Monday. Olight quality has always been excellent in my experience, apart from 2 instances I can recall. It’s usually a fairly reasonable price for the performance/quality/warranty.
I’ve had lots and lots of Olights before. Build quality is very good, they’re good lights. I still use some regularly and generally have no problem recommending them. That said, the emitter they’ve chosen for this light is not going to be pretty. I’ve got an hcri XP-G3 in another light myself, its pea-soup green. Very recently Maukka got ahold of this Olight for testing and he found very similar results to mine. He says he’s got a full review coming if you want to wait, but there’s good details in that link.
The HCRI version is pretty much a marketing gimmick. The beam is ugly which defeats the purpose of high CRI. And it’s not just the green, it’s the fact that it has all sorts of colors in the beam. It’s probably not that big of a deal for most consumers, but if you’re looking for a good tint and color rendering, you should skip it.
I would heartily recommend the special edition S Mini Ti with a neutral white emitter. It’s miles better even with the low CRI.
Well that’s a bummer.
Hopefully the new optic will work well with nichias.

Thanks Guys, yeah my concern is for a pea-soup emitter. Hopefully the emitter swap will be possible. Looking forward to hearing feedback. From the video above it doesn’t look too bad at all.
