RPG-100 (aborted entry for the 2017 blf build contest)

RPG-100:
Recycling Photon Generator - 100 denotes maximum lens diameter in mm

Materials and components:

Body:

4 1/2” od x 1/4” x 12” aluminum tube (6061)
4” od x 1/16” x 10.375” aluminum tube (6061)
4” x 1 3/16” aluminum disc - led mounting surface (6061)
4” x 1/8” aluminum disc - battery mounting partition (5052)
4 1/2” x 1/4” aluminum disc - tailcap (5052)
2x 4” x 1/8” and 1x 4” x 1/16” discs (5052) for driver mount/heat sink

Battery holder:

stacking 4 cell 18650 to 21-70 compatible trays allowing multiple 2s configurations currently in development.

Lenses:

final decision dependent on test results

Reflector:

72mm x 35mm modified hemispherical (with flattened sides) providing proper curve to the critical angle range.

Emitter:

Cree MT-G2 5000k

Not typical for a “thrower” but chosen for wider beam and relatively high luminous output.

Driver:

to be determined
Dual switch firmware with forward clicky and momentary. Bigger is better.

Other:

Considering addition of active cooling. At 4 1/2” diameter x 12”+ this light is seriously big. Addition of an ounce or two is minor at this point considering the main tube (4 1/2” x 1/4” x 12”) is currently 4 lbs and final weight with lenses and cells will be pushing 10 lbs.

Glad your friend got home and you’ve picked this up again :+1:

Thanks. So am I although this window of acquisition will be brief. She still can’t eat and will need more tpn bags and another trip to MI to figure out why. Cleveland Clinic REALLY messed her up. IMHO, a human life was more important than a contest.

  • 1 . I’m not going to race you to finish the build.
