can you help me source this LED?

i hope this is the right sub forum, if not, please feel free to move it as needed! this is a led from a desk lamp. powered by a constant current power supply 12V 500mA. diameter of the PCB is 24mm. tried to find this thing on ebay or aliexpress but w/o success. no idea what to search for. i searched for "high power led" "12v 5W" "COB" "24mm" a combination of it ... any help would be highly appreciated, as the lamp itself was quite expensive and if i can source the led it will work again. if i press my finger on it it kind of works. there must be some connection broken inside.

You sure it’s the connection in the LED itself, or maybe something in the lamp fixture?

Offhand, you might try an XHP70 in its 12V flavor. 20mm star, but the holes should still more or less line up to secure it, and either a Cu washer, or a wire that’s soldered to the pad then wrapped around the screw, should make electrical contact.

Bonus is that you can pick whichever color/tint you want!

Word search at AE quite often is not working very well. My trick at AE is to find a vaguely similar item and scan through the ‘More Products from other sellers’ pictures section.
This may be a good starting point for you.

The 500mA are very unusual and you will probably find pretty much nothing with that.
You should go for higher-rated COBs, like the Cree CXA1304

I would source a 700mA COB or a XHP35 wih some diffusor

more or less. if i press my thumb on the LED it will light up, then start flickering and go off again. i took out the led and attached a power supply (set to 12v and 500mA) with crocodile clamps. same result. interestingly the LED consumed 200mA @9V.

nice find, but i think this is way too powerful. this is for a desk lamp. so a yellowish not too bright light is wanted.

thanks. that looks promising. the pcb is a bit smaller, but i’m sure i can fix it somehow to the lamp.

Well, your driver stays the same, so this COB won’t be much brighter than the one before

i ordered some of those 20mm wide 3W and 5W COB LEDs in different colors. will see how it works out.
i just don’t understand why the producer of this lamp didn’t use them as well, but went with a completly non sourceable LED?!

do you have a URL link to the desk lamp? maybe try finding a used / busted one on ebay or craigs list if you have to use the exact OEM part…???

So this thread is a bit older, but still:

  1. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10PCS-High-Power-5W-Round-LED-Cob-Chip-White-White-Warm-DPD-20-0302-Led-Chip/32316559484.html they look similar, though they have a star, not a round PCB.
  2. these might be the same COB but different PCB and might be problematic to cool/adapt https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wholesale-Price-G4-COB-DC12V-4W-5W-7W-12W-Pure-Warm-White-LED-15-18-30/32669116618.html
  3. those are also different, but still 20mm so within gripping range https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10pcs-3W-5W-7W-10W-COB-LED-Lamp-Light-Bulb-Neutral-White-Cool-White-Warm-White/32363795936.html?

There is a shit ton of different COBs, but at the low end price, simply order then all and test fit them.

On the other hand, the problem might already be resolved.
