Add a tiny copper wire and see if it helps? They also anodized the driver side threads which im not a huge fan of. I think its better for heat transfer not to?

Lastly, my old 18650 sofirn bypassed tail switch broke and i probably havent changed that thing a dozen times. The wire was far too thin for how much solder they used.

Replaced the spring and bypass on that one and got 3,670lm at 0s with Samsung 25S. That one has LH351D 5000K 80CRI

Yeah, a simple copper washer should do the trick. That’s easier than my first thought of building up solder and filing down the high spots.

Thanks for checking on this. I wonder when it will be “safe” to order from Amazon to ensure getting the corrected version.

Apparently we need to wait a little bit longer for Amazon. I’ve asked on AE and just got the answer:
“The AMZ not yet, because of the new produce batch is still on its transfer way to USA

Also they advised to check directly with Amazon for the latest updates.

The inventory in amazon warehouse is still the old ones, but it has code to bring the price down to $32 for kit!

if you don’t mind the lower output or can replace new driver, just PM Sofirn for code.

Does anyone know is 42mm glass will fit into C8F? My host came with lens with no coatings so want to upgrade but I’m not sure if 42mm one from intl-outdoor.com will fit or should I just get 41,8mm.

The “42mm” one commonly marketed for the C8 fits fine, as does the stainless bezel if you fancy changing that too.

TBH I did order stainless bezel a while ago, just forgot about it, so the whole question was actually irrelevant Facepalm
Thanks for the answer anyway Wink

LH351D for the better color rendition and more flood.

It’ll be like a smaller Q8, so you will absolutely love it.

This is what is nice about this host. Either LED you pick will still have decent throw and flood but you can choose more of one or the other still.

More flood you say? Hmmm, what are the options for getting these leds? Can they be bought reflowed on a board or do you have to buy a host, use that mcpcb and reflow yourself?

You can reflow them yourself, but most of us, not including me of course, don’t have solder paste+temperature controlled hotplate. So it is out of the question unless you have it.

However, you can buy an MCPCB preflowed from Mtn Electronics, or even better, if you want a full light, buy this one, and select 219C version:
http://www.mtnelectronics.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=66&pr...

Leave a message saying you want 4000k 90CRI LH351Ds or 5000k 80CRI LH351Ds reflowed instead of the 219C, since they are about the same price He won’t mind at all.

You can then put in the driver of your choice in.

Dang, he only has the 18650 version host.

I guess I have to buy a 21700 host from Sofirn and reflow the leds myself. I’ve got a cheap hot air station so I can clamp the mcpcb and heat it slowly from the bottom. I’ve got solder paste, but I think you can apply some wire solder to the pads, add some extra flux and then hot air to do the reflow. I need to watch more youtube hot air reflow videos. Big Smile

There’s a first time for everything, right?

Replaced the tail spring (large blue) and beefed up the bypass (20 gauge) on my C8F 21700 w/ LH351D 4000K 90CRI

3,177 at 0s w/ lightly used Vapcell 3750mAh 24A 21700
3,486 at 0s w/ topped off 30T Vapcell re-wrap

They use so much solder on their spring pad I was worried I would kill the switch trying to get it off since I do not have hot air gun. I clamped alligator clips on both switch legs and it seems to be fine.

Going to call this one done.

Have one more host but not sure what LEDs I wanna use with it just yet.

The C8F with 21700? There was a whole thread Tracy started, get it from Amazon via code, PM her to ask for it.

Just got mine today, charging the cell as I type. ~33bux for the kit, ie with light/cell/charger/cable. And from Amazon, so you get it in a week vs a month.

(Shouldda tried for 2, but had hinky things with coupons before. Ie, try for 2, can’t get it, retry for 1, “you have already used this coupon…”, balls…, so I decided to play it safe.)

And I can’t believe Utorsh has its own version out there. Flash sale at GB, 30bux without the kit. Big Smile

Them pir8s must’ve been working fulltime on it…

Oh, Mikey seems to be located in the US. I thought he was from some little country I’ve never heard of where Aliexpress was the only choice.

Yeah, does kinda bug me when someone (not Mikey, even though I got nfi where Uppuwhatever might be Big Smile ) asks “Where to get XYZ?”, people chime in, then 40 replies later, get “Oh, I’m in Lower M’Botho, and Amazon/GB/AX/anyone doesn’t deliver anything here.”.

Ummm, so put it in yer profile, or say so beforehand, maybe?

Anyhoo, yeah, ‘twas a nice deal. Think I wanna get another one. LOL

I just heard back from Tracy that this is a legitimate product that they made for Gearbest.

I wonder if there’s any changes at all (firmware driver, the varying lumens due to varying tailcap current between samples…), other than the logo/branding?

I don’t see the point in measuring lumens at 0s only. It’s only for a split second, doubt we ever see that number other than in a lumen tube or similar.

I always measure at both 0s and 30s as it gives a more realistic rating. Also shows if a light can handle the heat

I measured at 30s too but i didnt wait for light to cool and i wasnt sure if it started stepping down.

It’s not that interesting of a spec unless the light can hold turbo for a few minutes IMO.

Received my C8F 21700. The size is just a tiny bit larger than the 18650 version. The finish is a tad bit shinier than the mat finish on the 18650 version. Tint is a little cooler than the 18650 version, but both are pretty decent. It comes with a sleeve to allow use of 18650. Both versions come with factory spring bypasses. The following are my test results from a TA Lumen Tube calibrated with Maukka calibration lights.

C8F 21700 on Samsung 21700 30T: 2,890 lumens at 1s
C8F 21700 on Sony 18650 VTC5D: 2,500 lumens at 1s
C8F 18650 on Sony 18650 VTC5D: 3,155 lumens at 1s

This is very disappointing considering Sofirn rates the C8F 21700 version at 3,500 lumens. They rated the C8F 18650 version at 2,580 lumens only. I’m surprised why the 21700 version performs worst than the 18650 version. Usually Sofirn lumen specs are very accurate or even under rated so not sure how did they screw up so bad this time.

There may be too much resistance in the new tail switch they added. Try measuring the output with the tail cap off and a thick wire across the battery and battery tube. See if the output jumps up.

There’s not much that has changed between the old c8f and the new one. The driver is different but it’s still FET driven. I assume they are using a good FET, maybe not. The tail cap and switch assembly is new as well.

I just swapped out the older driver with Sofirn’s replacement driver and measured it with both Samsung 40T and 30T and got 2,870 lumens at 1s. Basically no difference at all Sad

Check if the driver ring is making good contact like Jason noticed on his? Solder blob or shim it if not. I would probably redo the spring bypasses too with 20g
