LG HG2 for BLF Q8

Would these LG HG2’s be ok for the BLF Q8? A bit hard to get good 18650’s where I am. Thanks in advance guys.

those are very good high drain cells

So far I’ve tested a set of 4 LG HG2’s (flat-top) on BLF Q8, and they drained at the same rate (same voltage, +/- 0.01v when I took them out after getting them drained). Just be sure to screw in just tight enough.

I would solder blob them to get better battery contact

Thanks for the replies. How about a Samsung 30Q? Which of both would you recommend?

I believe for the BLF Q8, it’s “recommended” to use 18650s that have a button-top, or at least a noticeable “raised flat-top”.

The reason for this is that the “+” contact of the BLF Q8 may not connect that well if using non-button tops.
The LG HG2 has a sort of “raised flat-top”, so while it works, it may not be optimal, unless as Lexel mentioned, do a solder blob (ie. convert the LG HG2 into sort of a solder ‘button-top’).

The Samsung 30Q is another flat-top, and it’s even less-raised, so that the “+” contact of the BLF Q8 may not connect that well (eg. using a set of 4 30Qs, if some make contact some of the time while the others do not, then there will be uneven drain of the cells, and from what I’ve read, can damage the lifecycle of the rest of the cells. Again, the workaround is a solder-blob (or similar). Or just use button-top 30Qs (Samsung 30Qs don’t have button-top by themselves, but some resellers add button-top to their 30Qs.)

For a slightly brighter BLF Q8, Samsung 30Q (somewhat less internal resistance) is likely better than the LG HG2. Although the HG2 is also very good.
I’m currently in mid-testing a set of my flat-top 30Qs on my BLF Q8 and will use them some more to see if it will cause uneven drain…

I’m guessing there isn’t any noticeable difference between the two . I use both Hg2 and he4 LG’s.
the both work without solder blobs
But I remember doing my first solder blob and thinking …” why did i wait so long ”
in some lights that small difference in length helps a lot .
Scuff / flux and blob …simple as pie

I can get button top 30Q’s.

I have 4 of those, solder blobbed i use in lights made for 4 of those batteries.
Work just fine.
