Help making 16340, XP-G light.

Hey guys, my R2 keychain light seems to have died, so I'm looking into making my first custom light :D

These XP-G stars just came out (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.44306) so I'm thinking of buying one of them, with a cheap host (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.19464) and a new driver, running off one 16340.

Can anyone reccomend me a specific driver for this setup? Also, is it possible to just buy an empty host somewhere? That seems to be the cheapest one on dx that looks fairly decent. Thanks

Somebody on here or Jayki has since the weekend commented on somewhere that had a range of empty bodies. Just wish I could remember whether it was here or Jayki. This was within the last week.

Would be interested in empty bodies myself. LT has a few but mostly P60s (L2, 501 etc) and they do seem hard to find in general.

Might have been me ...

Ebay ... Ultrafire 501A around $10 for a body , CR123A host [ I have 2 myself ]

http://www.lightake.com/products.do/category.Wholesale_Flashlight_Accessories-214 Some bodies , I bought the Sky Ray myself , but its 18650 ... Nice though , nothing to complain about .

If you just want a nice RCR123A [ wont run primaries ] Light , try the Ultrafire A20 , I have 3 myself , 2 stock , and one now SSC P7 [ Modified ]

ITC on Ebay use to have emty bodies to a fine price.

Sorry , you wanted a driver :

How hard do you want to push it ?

Lots of 1A drivers to chose from ....

If you want to push it reasonably hard , try the shinning beam 1.4A 3 mode driver ...

Harder than that ? http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=1845

or maybe this one . http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=10243 I like this one , but wont work @ 3v , great 4.2v driver , + Mode options

Thanks for the advice everyone. Will probably just use a 1A driver in a cheap ultrafire host ... not enough heat transfer to drive it at 1.5A perhaps.

honestly, this is my favorite flashlight of all time

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26497

its 13 bux (for one) and its super bright to begin with. one 16430 in there makes this puppy as bright as my other q5 build.

of course its not big enough to take a p7, so i have yet to modify one. i buy them in small bulk quantities and sell them to friends and people at work

get the trustfire batteries with the flame on the side, and she'll be more than bright enough for u, and super small. like mount on a 1911a1 pistol size small lol

That's the one that quit on me! :D

no way! why dont u use that as a host then? i buy and sell these all the time. i love them. they are a little lower quality than my first one, but they are great

just replace the regulator man! orr, replace the regulator AND drop an R5 in there ;-)
