Which to buy: Wowtac 18650 or Nitecore 18650

New guy here with a battery question. I received a Nitecore P10 for Christmas and I am debating on which battery to get for it. How does the Wowtac (part of Thrunite’s company) 3400mah 18650 compare to the Nitecore 3400mah 18650? Both of these batteries are usb rechargable. The Nitecore goes for $19.95 and the Wowtac goes for $15.95. I was going to go for Nitecores 2600mah usb rechargable 18650 for $13.95 but then I saw the Wowtac a1 light and thus the Wowtac battery. Would the Wowtac be fine in the Nitecore P10? Thanks.

I bought a Wowtac A2 headlamp from Amazon for $19.99 and it comes with a 2600 mah usb rechargeable battery. I just checked and they are still $19.99! The model up from that is the A2S for $29.99 and comes with a 3400mah usb rechargeable battery! This way you can get your battery and another toy to play with at the same time! :+1:

My 3400 mah Wowtac battery fits just fine (and works fine) in my Nitecore P10GT and MH10. Not 100% sure about the P10 though. Both batteries have worked well for me with no issues from either brand

Wowtac 18650 should run fine

They are both probably based on the Panasonic NCR18650B which is an very old cell with limited high current capabilities. I would stick to a non-rebrand Sanyo GA or Samsung E35. They are much cheaper and perform better.

I could go into details if you like but basically these “branded” cells are just some rewraps, and they usually go about twice the price of the original battery. Rewrap means the company just slaps their logo on a cell their did not manufacture.

For example here’s a Samsung 35E protected cell, Mtnelectronics is a reliable US based shop:

Since this is BUDGET light forum we shall guide you to the most cost efficient route

Ok update. I decided to go with the wowtac (explanation later), and also bought a atactical a1. I started charging the battery that came with the light and when I checked on it the body is slightly warm and the “button” is a little hot to the touch. It has been charging for maybe 20 minutes. Is this normal? Thanks for the help.

As far as I know, yes, that’s normal for 18650s with a microUSB charging circuit. The surface of the circuit is just really small and gets hot due to this.
