Where to sell used tools?

I bought this set about 4 years ago, and have only used 2-3 of them a handful of times. Pretty much Brand New, but they just collect dust now. I’d like to get as much back as i can (don’t we all :money_mouth_face:. Anyone know of a site that would be a good place to start? Im not on social media, just this and one other forum but the people here are so helpful and into so many different things than just lights so i figure someone is in the know!!!

Proto Combination Wrench Set

eBay might be your best bet.

ebay?

“Handfull” That’s for sure, the smallest wrench in the set is 1 5/16th. :open_mouth:

Thanks!!

Was hoping i wouldnt have to make an Ebay account. But if thats the best way then i’ll buckle lol!!!

You can pick your jaw off the floor now that you’ve seen the last person on earth without an EBAY account (feels that way) lol!!

Yea, they are quite large, you could just about use the 2 1/2 one for a walking cane lol!!

A long long time ago, Archimedes of Syracuse has said: Give me a place to stand and with a lever I will move the whole world. So, you are the guy who installed it.

I’m not on the market for these & don’t know the normal price range they go for but did you happen to read the sizes of the wrenches? I highly doubt comparable sets can go for $100.

Lol, you’d hate to see the MSRP then lol!

Some of the cheaper sets are around $400 (about the price for the biggest wrench in this set if bought alone) , idk what factory they come from but the Stanley Proto brand is big in industrial settings and i purchased these through my company. Still paid about the same price but it was in installments. Who knows, maybe i got burnt, but they worked for me when i needed them and a tool that performs its job is worth more than any money IMO. I’ve been satisfied with all my proto stuff but i’ve also been satisfied with most of my taiwanese tools too. But Im not a fan of shelf queens in any fashion, and thats what they’ve become.

LMAO, they do almost look goofy compared to the sets in big box stores! I worked on underground mining equipment and they have a few BIG bolts. Most of the time they have so much torque and are rusted up bad enough that we just torch them out and put the fastener back on with the wrench. But they make’em well cuz they don’t break very often, hence the dust collecting!

You might want to give Craigslist a try.

Yep, looks like Ebay and Craiglist are gonna be the “go-to’s”. I kinda knew it already but was just puttin feelers out for a tool forum or something similiar.

Thanks for all the help peeps! And the funnies (always good)!

Given their size the shipping on those will be a killer, I hate craigslist but that may be a good option this time. Maybe trade for something that will sell to a larger market (toys like motorcycles etc.)

Read my mind lol!! I figured shipping would be no fun, gonna try local first.
Good idea on the trading too, maybe it will make me feel better about getting rid of tools (i very rarely do). But if something sits for 3+ years and i haven’t used it, i feel like its wasting space lol! Might find a trade worth keeping instead of selling.

That’s because we used to be neighbors. My family started out in WV on their way to OH. I think a branch of the family is still there.

Well HELLO Neighbor!!
Makes perfect sense now!
:+1:  :sunglasses:
Small world friend!

There’s craigslist, however, if you are doing a deal do it in a public place, like WalMart parking lot, etc. there have been people robbed in their homes from posting craigslist ads. Be careful. Or go eBay. Good luck.

Also make sure it is a cash in hand purchase.
I posted a Laptop on CL a couple months ago and was hit with about 12 emails to “Send it as a Birthday Gift to my Niece” type of deal offering PayPal and too much offered (excessive $$ for your time) for the shipping costs. They are all just scams to get paypal reimbursement for the defective claims. I know you could drop one of those wrenches from a plane and it would survive but that is what people are doing to get free items at the sellers loss.

PP buyer protection opened up a whole new world of scammers.

Sell it on the facebook machinists group. Lots of them claim to love spending lots of money on tools made in the USA. I love my Proto double ended 3/4 and 7/8 ratcheting wrench, but my pay as a machinist isn’t nearly enough to drop over $1500 on a set of wrenches.

Thanks for all the concerns! Sadly Im well aware of the ridiculously evil world we live in. Thats another reason im trying to avoid certain sales avenues. Its awful that we have to sleep with one eye open and watch our interweb lives diligently because of this.

I’ll def. check out the machinists group. I dont do facebook but i’ve got enough friends who do lol! Thanks again!
