Need help identifying led!

Hello,

I have received a Securitying flashlight from Aliexpress. Now, this flashlight should have 7 xm-l2 u2 LEDs.
I don’t have any knowledge about LEDs, and I wonder if they are in fact xm-l2 u2 LEDs.
So far they look quite similar to those but the dot pattern on the LED seems regular instead of irregular. The quality and size looks right.
Can anyone help identify these ASAP please?

Kind regards,
Thomas

Picking out fakes is really hard, especially on the XM-L2. But I think it may be a clone. Two reasons:

  • No polarity dot in one corner. As far as I know all the XM-L2s had that.
  • Bond wires look off to me. Yours seem to terminate in kinda squareish ends, but I’m pretty sure XM-L2s are round.

…but that’s just my impression and I could very well be wrong. Its been a while since I worked much with XM-L2s. You should wait for a second opinion.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply!
Do you have any idea about the level of performance of such a clone?
If the performance is about the same as the original leds, I won’t have to go through the hassle of contacting the seller and sending the flashlight back to china for a refund…
I still have to buy batteries and a charger for it, so I can’t test the flashlight yet.

Second opinion here: the dots on the die are in a square pattern, not a diagonal pattern like the XM-L2. So this is a fake. It does have a decent die size and a ESD-wire so it may be a proper led anyway, the chinese lookalikes become better and better.

It is Latticebright XM2

Thanks for your replies. I have read some posts about Cree leds compared to chinese lookalikes, and the difference in performance does not seem that big.
Regarding brightness, would you consider this latticebright XM2 led to be in the same region as a real xm-l2 led?
The flashlight runs on 4 18650 batteries and has 7 LEDs.
As long as it is better than my Led Lenser p7.2 (runs on 4 AAA batteries) I might keep the flashlight.
