Noob looking for info

Hi guys

I’ve just just joined and as I posted in the AAA flashlight section my current flashlight, a brass olight i3S CU has some damage due to battery lerakage. It’s working but only on the high mode.

I really like the design of the body and I would like get it working properly again, I realise that this most likely means replacing the LED and the curcuitboard but I don’t know where to even start looking for information on how to go about it. I hope the good people here can help point me in the right direction.

I have not personally seen any mods on this light, but i could be wrong. Maybe one of our more experianced members can help. Good Luck

Had to look up the light, as I ain’t got one…

Twisty, I imagine, from the descriptions.

I ruined an Orcatorch EA01 with an alkaleak. Drilled out what I could, but still have issues with the tube. The head works fine, but the O-ring + “lockwasher” that make up the switch at the bottom of the battery tube need to be redone, as it doesn’t make contact when assembled.

Take some clip-leads and connect the head to a nekkid cell, make sure it lights up. Break-then-make contact to try switching modes. If it works, then the head’s fine, leave it alone. If not, yeah, you got problems with it.

Soak the tube in vinegar, overnight, and repeatedly. That should dissolve the solidified ook from the accursed alkaleak. Well, slowly but hopefully surely. Might have to “drill” some steel wool down the tube to scrape the innards. Repeat as necessary. And it still might not ever work 100%.

Now, remind me why I loathe alkaleaks…

As for the head, you’ll have to carefully (insert macro to repeat that last word 80×) use something like a cotton swab and vinegar to clean the head (threads, center contact, etc.) until it’s clean. Then “rinse” with water, then alcohol.

Thanks for the suggestions Lightbringer, you’ve certainly brought light to my problem :D.

I’ve worked through them and the light is still only working on what seems to be the high mod as near as I can tell with my MK1 eyeballs. I guess this this means the curcuit board that drives the LED has been damaged in some way.

Do you know if anyone sells complet replacement units or what parts I would need to make my own?

Again thanks for your help.

No idea. Don’t have any Olight lights, so can’t say.

If it starts on M (M→L→H or whatever), it might actually be stuck on M (1st mode if no memory) and just not be changing modes.

Dunno, but if it lights up at all, I’d probably just leave it as-is vs trying to “fix” it and busting it completely.

For a “complete replacement unit”, frankly, the only thing that fits the bill would be a whole new light. Any “might be this… might be that… might be something else…” problem doesn’t really narrow it down to one thing.

Ok, thanks for the input. Another member pm’d me with a link to some drivers on mountian electronics that might be suitable so I’ll have a go at modding it.

Thanks again for the help and I really do mean it.
