I didn’t know there was such a large community around flashlights. Surprising I didn’t find out about it sooner as I’m really into LEDs for creative applications and embedded electronics etc…
As far as torches go I currently have a LED Lenser P7 (had for years) and a Petzl reactive head torch, but from reading I can see these brands aren’t looked highly upon on within the community.
Anyway I stumbled across ToyKeeper’s D4 review and became interested, after a bit of research I ended up ordering one in grey with the XP-L HI V2 5D LEDs. Had to pick up some Sony VTC6s and a charger as I don’t have anything that uses 18650 batteries currently.
Hopefully in a month or two I will actually get to play with it
In fact there are many flashlight-related communities, see the ‘related sites’ section in the left banner of this page. Btw, just now I see that that banner is missing a significant one: candlepowerfoums.com
melainotype, welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay on BLF, a GREAT flashlight community
BTW, the Emisar D4…top flashlight! You started with a nice one
Beware, you may not be able to stop getting them after a while :smiling_imp:
I noticed that a while ago, and wondered if it was maybe deliberate, as so many people here have expressed relief at having found this friendly refuge from various CPF issues. I haven’t spent much time on CPF myself, but since coming here have barely looked over there.
The Nichia was strongly considered for the high CRI, but as this torch is about the overkill I wanted to get the highest output. I feel like I might end up with multiple D4s though lol
Beware. Flashlights are addictive. I started with the Thrunite Archer 2A v3 and my second flashlight is the Emisar D4 XPL-HI 4000k. I instantly got addicted to flashlights after the mind blowing Emisar and now I have many dozens of flashlights.
The D4 is possibly the hottest pocket rocket these days, and the XPL version is even hotter - literally. 4k+ lumens on a high drain 18650… but only for a few seconds before it gets too hot to handle. The ramping UI is very sweet. Don’t expect more then 600 lumen continuous with such small tube lights though - which is plenty most of the time. The 4k burst is nice to have two clicks away.
How about a BLF A6 (or Astrolux S1) and a BLF Q8 next…? Two must have BLF specials.
