The Cobalt Pipeline

Hi All,

I’m not a fan of the Washington Post though this pertinent article makes for very interesting reading in a well presented format https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/business/batteries/congo-cobalt-mining-for-lithium-ion-battery/

this might be readable in spite of the pay wall…

Excellent article and great investigative reporting. It’s rare to find articles that are researched this well anymore. Both eye-opening but sadly not surprising at all.

There is a trick for that. Works on all of these type sites.
Put the OP link in at http://archive.is/

I’m not against subscriptions and it’s not exactly a hack, so make of it what you will.

No way, you need a subscription to read it? I’m in the UK (and Netherlands depending upon which VPN node I’m using at that moment) and I can read the link fine. This article is one of the best presented I have ever seen. It uses dynamic background video and mapping as your scroll down the page. Coupled with the engaging journalism it makes for something I have never quite seen before. What a huge shame if it’s actually behind a paywall.

My apologies to those that are unable to read it.

A good read. Thanks for posting!

Following those links the article is there, but the video and pictures are missing

You have to just read it and use your imagination.

Couple of interesting infographics from New Scientist. 2007 vintage, but still relevant:

Although there has been exploration since, with various new reserves being found, the long term availability of many materials is still surprisingly shaky.

Unfortunately, the article these are from is subscriber-only. If you have access, I think this is the link:

The Post article is also on pocket.
This search and it should one of the first articles

I’m in the UK, and not got any problems reading it on my PC. On my phone I get to read a handful of articles per month before they ask me to sign up, but I’m not actually sure whether I’ve even tried to access the website through my computer that often - IIRC the desktop site has never asked me for any money.

Thank you for the very good article Threadneedle. I did not have any problem viewing it where I am in the US.

good share, thanks! very insightful how hobbies/interests or future cars will shape the economy of earthly resources, depending economies and regions.

edit: LIT ETF would have been a great investment a while ago
