burned out driver

i replaced what i thought was a burned out driver but still only get moonlight mode for output can anyone suggest or guide me to what i my have done wrong

What light? Which driver? Did you manage to change mode? Measure current?
Please give us some additional info to be able to help you better

What driver and what flashlight where you using?
Can you give more information or post some photos?

Edit: You beat me Yokiamy

It could be possible that the led has been damaged or it isn’t making good contact to the mcpcb. A reflow will fix the contact problem if that is the case. To test the led you can use a 9v alkaline battery wired straight to the led. The alkaline cell will have to high of a internal resistance to give much current. If the led isn’t somewhat brighter with the 9v it needs reflowed.

it’s a thorfire vg15s and i believe it has a burned out led and needs to be replaced as it barely lites only moonlight mode even after replacing driver spoke with j.c. a builder and he suggested replacig the led as it is displaying defective preforrmace

It could be bad, but it could also need reflowed. Try pushing downward on the led while its on. If it flickers or becomes brighter it needs reflowed. I have had this very thing happen to me before, if I bumped the light a little it would flash slightly brighter. I reflowed the led to the mcpcb and haven’t had the problem since. Funny thing is it worked fine for days then just went dim like your describing. I guess it gets hot enough to break what little connection it had from the bad reflow from trying to push current through the bad connection, like when you push to much current through a closely matched rated fuse. works for a little while, then the strain and heat is more than it can bare.
