They are 2 seperate companies.

You have not been following its development on BLF these last few months? We talked about it here a long time ago.

It’s not a direct copy. It’s basically a bigger reflector version of the Astrolux MF02 or Mateminco MT35. They started working on it way back when they saw the interest grow during the GT development. It’s running a more basic UI that does 2.5A, but can not do 2A like the GT. So it doesn’t have that longer run time the GT has or the other cool UI stuff you get with NarsilM.

Chinese light makers are always copying and cloning each other. It is what it is.

On the latest MF02 the current was set to 2.7A, personally I prefer to set it down to 2.4-2.5A by a resistor mod. The modes are 15-35-1700-2700. On the 1700 mode the runtime will be longer and the range should be pretty good, the same or greater than on a GT on the 2A mode. The only drawback on the MF02 is the quality of the reflector which has a little op surface like so I suppose that the MF04 will be the same.

I don’t see how “1700 lumen” on the MF02 would be as bright as the GT at 2A. From 2.5A to 2A you only loose maybe 200-250 lumen. For Astrolux to say it is a 1000 lumen drop, the amp range is probably about 1.2A to 1.3A maybe? Definitely less than 2A. Has anyone measured all the brightness levels on the latest MF02?

BTW, Banggood still shows the MF02 Turbo to be 3000 lumen. The MF04 is showing 2700 lumen.

We are just being nit picky, I think. People can buy what they want. Beer

Range and brightness are two different things.
MF04 has a bigger reflector so RANGE could be the same.
I ordered one so I will tell You more when I get it.
I’m curious did LT/ Neal send lost orders.

He has not responded to me in a day or 2, that is usually a sign that he is at lumintop or at least away from home. His VPN and thus internet access is seriously limited when it is not at home.

I really considered also getting the MF04 am pretty sure I’m deciding against it. I have a GT and another one on the way, so that’s part of it. But mostly it comes down to UI. Had the MF04 something more to offer than just a different tint and slightly larger reflector as well as Narsil, it would have been a no-brainer. I’m thinking something like an ultra-throw Oslon or Luminous ver. I have a MF01 and I much prefer the Q8 and GT ramping. I actually really like the full on and release off on the GT. That is impossible with the UI of the MF04 since the best you can do is a double click turbo and hold to turn off. That plus it’s the imitation of the project started here on BLF and I like to support the real deal. Additionally, anybody that has followed the GT from the beginning knows how much scrutiny to details was done with this light in the design process and prototype testing. Not sure about that with the other light.

Is some of this copying supply chain related also? So like the reflector design ends up basically the same other than maybe slightly less spendy final maching/finishing regimes or something for some slightly lower grade that like Astrolux will buy….but like Astrolux copying maybe helps the eventual supply cost of the Lumitops by amortizing some of the heavier or prone to needing replaced a lot tooling? It seems things can get so cheap for what you would think is a bit of an oddball part over there, that a lot of crafty agreements maybe exist where the supplier almost demands that they be allowed to sell similar part to the copiers just to help ensure they can build at the volume needed to offer the prices they offer.

Lexer is selling driver for MF02 with Narsil soft so ramping in MF04 od quite possible.

It’s a very complicated question.
If one company copies another company’s design it’s because their competitors. So they are not going to share any actual parts with each other.

Certainly there are components that are shared between two different companies such as switches, switch pcbs and switch covers, maybe lenses, but you can’t say it’s a copy because it’s made by a third party who sells to a lot of different manufacturers.

The reflector in the GT and MF04 are not interchangeable and are not even the same size. It’s possible they could be made by the same company that specializes in making reflectors, but these kinds of details are kept secret over there. Maybe both giant reflectors were made by the same company or maybe not. We just don’t know.

The point I was trying to make was that companies tend to copy basic ideas. Look at all the C8 lights that are being made. Also look at the new mini throwers using xhp35-HI emitters and 21700 cell’s that are coming out. I suspect that a company that makes drivers has come up with a cost-effective 12 volt boost driver and is selling it to a lot of different companies. Examples include Astrolux X, Lumintop ODL20C, Manker U22, plus a couple I can’t think of. All super similar. Sometimes it’s a coincidence, other times it’s copying of ideas. I think the MF04 is just a copy of the idea of a really big reflector. Nothing looks directly copied. I don’t think any parts interchange.

Yeah….I wasn’t even meaning the eventual part was interchangeable. But I could see some casting/forging blanks that are then machined down to a few different products even when things just sorta grow like this. So basically to grow like this if a lot of the same folks are doing these casting/forgings they can offer way better prices if they can have some blank for a few different products that is then just machined down to slightly different products and save a good bit of money and not have to waste/recycle as much material machining out of some blank that is generally the right size and shape for a few products or something. And I figure stuff like that is why they are all tight lipped about the supply chain….there’s probably only not so many firms doing most of the detail part fabrication and once you figure out who that is they are happy to sell something really similar to brand Z to get more volume and help the bottom line! Haha.

I don’t think castings/forgings are used at all. The parts are all machined from billet.

Keeping the suppliers and build process secret makes a lot of sense. This stops or at least slows down a lot of fledgling companies that want to get into the flashlight market. It’s no different than say magicians that guard their secrets because their livelihoods depend on it.

That’s how I see it.

Hey all, Matt has posted another great video on the GT. From the GT modding thread:

Can someone who contacted DHL to get a tracking # please let me know what # you called and how you went about it please? I just contacted DHL main customer care # and told the person I did not have a tracking number for my expecting package and this person said sorry we need the tracking # and could not help me. I asked if they could look it up based on my address and said no. So I’m curious if anyone’s had any luck with this. I wouldn’t care about the shipment but if this is a signature upon delivery package then I would like to know when it’s scheduled to be delivered so I can plan accordingly for someone to be home on such day.

Wow. He actually managed to get more throw with the xhp70! Now all we need is to convince lumintop to make the MCPCBs for the xhp70. Also I need to get my hands on that TA driver as well. My GT hasn’t even arrived yet and I’m already planning to mod it.

Just giving an update, I don’t have all the details but I can confirm that the GT shipments were picked up last week and sent to the forwarder. I am pretty sure this includes both the lost shipments and the new ones.

It will take time for the tracking numbers to filter back down the line to Neal but they are on the way.

Someone asked me if I could make a CAD file for a stock GT XHP35 centering ring for 3D printing. I have had so many PM’s the last week I can no longer find who it was so I am just posting this here.

This should fit a stock GT and center the XHP35 LED. I have not tested it though.

Only print it out of white ABS, colors will melt, I know this from experience.

I paid for a final round BLFGT (#1438) with Batteries, Short Tube and Shoulder Strap on May 5.

A few days ago I got an email from Leo at Lumintop informing me that “your name XXX was listed in blacklist by your customs” (USA), so my order can’t be shipped.

I order from China on a regular basis and have never encountered anything like this before (my last shipment arrived about two weeks ago).

Leo wanted me to furnish another name or family member. I don’t exactly have any spare names, aliases or family members lying around so I suggested several variations on my real name, but he hasn’t had much luck with them and I don’t want to push his patience too far.

Has this happened to anyone else who might have some insight?

Could this be some quirk in the shipping method being used? If I were willing to cough up some extra $ to use a carrier like DHL, might that work?

Could this be part of an opening round in an impending trade war?

I know of at least 1 other person this happened to and it was never really explained then either.

Best I can figure there is some kind os blacklist internally in china, weather from the forwarding company or from the government I have no idea. There being a blacklist from the government would not surprise me at all.

Sometimes you can have packages delivered to a UPS / fedex store and held for you, might try that?

Know guns, know peace, know safety. No guns, no peace, no safety.

The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools. --Herbert Spencer , English Philosopher (1820-1903)

So for anyone waiting in the last batch, I just got a text that I had to pay customs. Paid for the GT on may 5, shipped to the Netherlands. Customs hit me hard though, 50 euros. So be prepared for that if you are dutch as well. Expected date of delivery is may 22 for me by the way.

I just got a SMS from DHL with my tracking information, BUT it has the incorrect address…it’s not even the right city or state. My paypal address is correct. I have no connection to the listed delivery address, so I have no idea where that came from.

What do I do now??
