Those lights don’t seems to have any special features or technologies of Motorola? Feels like it should be called Motorolafire instead. Anyway, people will still buy just for the premium brand.
Their mobile telecommunication business phased out years ago when we had brick phones 
no way they can compete with modern smartphone giant names like apple and Samsung.
I guess they’re trying to tackling flashlight market and it is easier with smaller peanut return
They seem very generic. I think these lights might be done by someone like Lumintop or other Chinese company and just re-branded Motorola.

Yep these are legit.
My local Frys had them a few months ago. Almost bought the 14500 model, had it in my hands, thought about it and hung it back up on the peg board. It was around $29 IIRC… too steep for what it is and what its capable of. Was unsure about PWM, mechanical tail cap power lock out, and parasitic drain. All are deal breakers for me.
Glad I passed on it. Too many better / proven options… thorfire, sofrin, utorch, manker, Klarus, lumintop…etc.
Still though could be a good choice for someone just getting into it. Comes with a 14500 and built in charging capability, Reputable seller. 300 Lumens isn’t anything to get excited over really, unless its a constant-ON steady state 300 OTF, as opposed to a step-down themo-throttle… that could appeal to a lot of users.
I am pretty sure these accept a standard micro USB plug to facilitate re-charging (let others correct me on that though). Not many 14500 options exist with this feature. I think there’s a Rofis angle head and a Jetbeam, not much else exists. These lights are ~$55 though IIRC.

They’re heavy in the 2-way radio market for Police, Fire, Emergency. I was thinking those personnel may be their primary target, and then the public because of the well known name.

The 16340 model was interesting too, appears large enough to fit a 18350, but if the specs are correct it’s way too large in general.
I have seen the (background of) the picture in ads for superb manufactured tactical military zooming flashlights that run on 3AAA. You can buy these for $70 from a smal elite of hand picked sellers, or for $5-$8 from almost anybody on Ebay.

Maybe in Australia this is the case, but in many countries and consumer markets they have a decent following. The carrier partnered Apple and Samsung product space ($750-$1100) is not their targeted market segment. Moto / Lenovo is more after the ~$150-200 mid-tier, carrier unlocked market with handsets like the Moto G and E series.
Their higher end models also had that moto-mod thing going, which is something neither Apple or Samsung would ever consider. So I really don’t think they are trying to go after A and S overall at least not in the high end space.
Regardless, I would not let anything that happens in the cellular industry taint ones views of anything else… totally different worlds in every aspect. Apple for one does not release official sales figures too, so in addition to not even having products in motos price range…. there’s no real data with which to draw a comparison.
In regard to the moto flashlights they certainly look like a re-brand of something else.

It’s questionable exactly who “they’re” is .
Motorola has been split up / bought / sold / etc. etc.
What entity currently has the rights to the Motorola brand name to use for things like this is anyone’s guess. Lenovo (the most recent owner of the brand for smartphones) has phased out the name, (EDIT: Is rumored to be trying to phase out the name and change it to “Moto”) so they could be licensing the name out now to anyone.
