Got it and you had the most important info which is the address and user name, the price can tell me the sphere size, I just like confirmation.

I can confirm that at least 1 more payment was lost to the bowls of the internet (it was canceled and no harm done but still annoying)

I think I will try switching to a paypal.me link instead of the email address and see how that does. I think the issue is how the email address is copy/pasted from BLF. It must be adding a space or something.

Everyone please check your payments to me if I have not confirmed it, if it says it has not been collected and gives you the option to cancel the payment, then please cancel it and contact me.

On a side note. I was shocked at how much more expensive these PVC fittings are the larger they get!

But…… If you really want to be SHOCKED to the very core, price some 24 inch ones. Some of those are $2500.oo & more……. Facepalm

Wow……. Wink

Yep, some of the 6” fittings I was looking at were $230 EACH.

The price goes up exponentially.

I was just looking at some PVC tubes to check out the prices, and it turns out they have pipes in the same colour as the MT09R: green and khaki. Big Smile

Hi TA,

I've PayPal'd you the $100 for a 3.5" lumen tube.  My transaction list shows the money has gone to a "Texas Ace", so I'm assuming we're all good Wink    And all requested info was included in a comment with the payment.

Sooooo looking forward to this!!  Thanks so much again for putting this project out there Smile

If I understand correctly, the meter does not have an actual lumens setting, you’re using the LUX setting, and the LUX reading is calibrated to be the lumens number, correct?

Also, the calibration is done on the meter, so if the meter were to quit working or malfunction a new meter would need to be re-calibrated to the sphere? Or how would that work?

First question yes.

The calibration is done in the tube. All the meters should be pretty much the same. There is sometimes a tiny variation between meters, but no big deal. If you meter breaks and you have to buy another one it may read a tiny bit different, but it will still be pretty close to the original.

I was comparing a couple of LX1330B lux meters (sold under different names) the other day with ceiling bounces and they were within about 2% of each other. I’ll upload a video on it.

Here you go. Check out the consistency. It might be closer to 1.5%. Pretty impressive for being made by two different companies. Maybe the same original company? I noticed the white diffusers on the receptor had a different level of translucence so they are definitely different meters.

TA is using an HS1010A meter which is not very expensive, maybe $20 at most. If you were worried about the original meter breaking, you could buy a second meter as a back up and compare it to the original just to make sure it’s within range or if it reads a tiny bit high or low. It’s not a bad idea.

Thanks. I’m not really worried about the meter breaking, just wondered “what if” and how this works.

I was looking at that meter back in March on aliexpress and banggood for around $12

As Jason said, the calibration is in the sphere. I have 2 HS1010A meters and had an LX1330B and they were all within a few percent of each other with in the tube readings. I have swapped the meters a few times when batteries ran low and noticed no difference when testing my “standard” lights.

I picked the HS1010A because it got pretty good reviews and it has worked very well in my sphere, it is simple and quick to use. Plus the sensor mounts into the PVC with a little work and does not need any glue. Thus allowing you to switch meters easily.

I had been wanting to do this for some time actually but could never figure out a method that would be possible to replicate consistently. The foam I used was far too custom for this kind of thing.

If anyone knows someone that needs or wants a Sphere on CPF/Reddit/facebook please feel free to let them know a batch is being made. I don’t do social media unless forced so I don’t have accounts on there (well I do have a CPF account but every time I post something it seems to get removed within the day…).

I will be figuring out exactly how many I am going to order and getting that process started later today.

Yeah, this is awesome, I’ve wanted to make one of these for years, but just wasn’t inclined to do so or even know where/how to begin. Especially nice that it just reads out the lumens instead of converting the Lux reading. It will be a huge advantage for building, modding, comparing and reviewing. Again thanks Texas_Ace for doing this, it’s a great service to the BLF community.

Thanks as well!

I assume Skylumen is ok with that? Never been in a facebook group so not sure what the “policy” is lol.

Just got a member from facebook that wants a sphere.

I am now debating between ordering 30 to fulfill these orders or reinvesting some of the money and ordering 50. Just not sure how well they will sell after this initial rush.

I am getting my shopping carts together now, this is not a cheap order lol, good thing I took payments in advance.

Very interesting, I would never of guessed that lol.

I have never actually talked to him before, just never had a reason. Keep meaning to get in contact, this might be a good excuse.

It would be interesting to see how the readings compare with his own. I took a very different approach to calibrating my sphere then most by using LED data sheets and test vs flashlights.

I figure that Cree has everything to loose if they mis-represent their LED’s capabilities on a data sheet that is being sold to engineers with the capability of testing to make sure it does what it should.

While flashlight manufactures selling to the general public that does not even know what LED is in the light have everything to gain by putting a larger number then the competitors.

Ok, I just placed the order for the PVC, I decided to split the difference and order 40 sets,

13 – 4.5”
27 – 3.5”

Lets just say I hope to not have to spend that much on PVC again lol.

Going to get the meter order placed as soon as they respond to my last email.

Seems like Vinh would of wanted a 6.5” for all the future needs—- Although I was able to some what measure my GT on my 4.5”

My guess is he wants to test out the smaller version to see how it works first and go from there.

Yeah, I think I will contact him, what is the best method to do that without facebook?
